You do have to use a bin liner but you do not have to buy the Simple Human bin liners as they are pricey. I use Wilkos own 50L Greensack which is made out of recycles plastic and is anti tear, I just role the edges under the lip of the bin and it's fine. So you could still used a bin liner and just reuse it every time you empty the bin if you are recycling fairly light weight items. Otherwise I feel a bin that suits your needs might be more suitable, as recycle bin are usually more sturdy than this bin which is only made from light weight plastic.
