It would be better to put in the hold case as this is generally not heated. You will have to guage yourself how many hours the fish travel like this as the block will thaw eventually. **Q: how long do they stay cool for?** A: This depends on the size and quality of the container being used. In my case I use these for quite a small cool bag which I travel with for sandwiches and drinks etc and the seem to work well for at least 12 hours, possibly longer on some trips, also the size of each of the 6 pouches means that they can pass the 100mg airport security limit for liquids which makes them a very very useful product indeed **Q: Would these be any good for small sports injuries** A: These are ideal for sports injuries, they are quite thin, can be folded round an injury to some extent and will not drip or leak like an ice cube would. However they don’t stay frozen for longer than a couple hours, so not great if you’re out and about all day. Also great as a cool pack on minor injuries because they are very flexible and form nicely around curves!
