Review: As good as the £40 ones? - Purchased these Drapers for cutting cycle gear shifter cables at a third the cost of the similar ParkTool CN-10. These Drapers are rated to cut up to 5mm of steel rope. They cut through 1.2mm stainless steel rope inner wire and the 4mm SP41 steel rope outer casing, smooth and clean like a hot knife through butter. The cut was accurate and instant with zero crushing, deformation or unravelling of either cable. Usage was easy leaving a clean end for the ferrules and end caps to push on, and the inner cable to slide through. After 5-10 snips, the cutting edge showed zero marks / damage. The only thing these cutters don’t have that the Park Tool does is the crimpers, but any pliers will crimp soft aluminium end caps. All in all, these are great cable cutters and well worth the money.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Hello, I bought this cutter but haven't managed to use it. I believe this is due to the safety lock but there wasn't any guide incl. how to use it.**
A: If you squeeze the handles together a little you will be able to release the safety lock which can be seen in the item image with a knurled part.

**Q: Are these suitable for cutting standard barbed wire?**
A: I just tested them on some barbed wire at the end of my garden and they cut it easily. That wire has been out there quite a long time, so may have been softened by time, but I would have thought they would be OK for new wire too.

**Q: will these cut through a coated steel core washing line?**
A: Yes, they cut through steel core washing line with no problem at all. It's one of the reasons I bought my pair.

**Q: Will they cut through PVC coated steel link fence**
A: Jaw opening is 6mm, so they would cut through soft wire up to that thickness.  As others have said, they are really for achieving a clean cut on bike brake cables, and for thicker wire, particularly if it is hardened,  operating loads might be too high to use for more than a few cuts.  I would look for something larger for wire fencing .

Purchased these Drapers for cutting cycle gear shifter cables at a third the cost of the similar ParkTool CN-10. These Drapers are rated to cut up to 5mm of steel rope. They cut through 1.2mm stainless steel rope inner wire and the 4mm SP41 steel rope outer casing, smooth and clean like a hot knife through butter. The cut was accurate and instant with zero crushing, deformation or unravelling of either cable. Usage was easy leaving a clean end for the ferrules and end caps to push on, and the inner cable to slide through. After 5-10 snips, the cutting edge showed zero marks / damage. The only thing these cutters don’t have that the Park Tool does is the crimpers, but any pliers will crimp soft aluminium end caps. All in all, these are great cable cutters and well worth the money.
