I've given up on twisting the yarn around a thick crochet hook or knitting needle because that just makes the yarn windier. I have spent days and days trying to unravel the huge birds nests that they make. I decided to wind onto flat cardboard rather, and reduce the windiness. I read the reviews on this winder and they were all pretty good. I struggled to get it fixed to my table but eventually managed. I put the yarn on wrong at first but it was still working, but I thought, this can't be right that I have to sit with my arms up, so I watched a few videos and found that you have to put the yarn around the sides. The instructions do NOT show it well - they are drawings that are very unclear. Anyway now I have it right and it's spinning away amazingly well. No more using my knees or an upended stool!
