Do NOT immerse the fryer in water. It does work this way and we have had some use from our fryer. All in all, it is not bad but I do think it could have been designed better. The separate handle for the basket can be a little awkward. **Q: How do i affix the handle to the basket** A: I gave up, as it was more dangerous falling off with hot food in it when I tried to turn food out. the handle fits into the mesh if you squeeze the end and let it spring open . the trouble is when you turn the basket over it folds up dropping hot fat and food over your hand. I use tongs to lift it out or use it without the basket lifting food with a slotted spoon.
