Review: Beautiful bright colours - I was pretty new to using India ink when I got these, so it felt like quite a leap to get the big set. I wasn’t disappointed though. They would make a beautiful gift, as they are presented so nicely in the packaging too. The colours are vivid and have been fun to use either neat, out of the jar, or diluted with water in refillable pens. I like that these have a dropper and worth paying a bit extra for as it’s very handy. Only downside I’ve found is that the ink has a sheen to it, so if you’ve used it undiluted, it’s not always easy to add colour pencil or pen over the top. If you’re not sure you’ll use them and are totally new to India inks, it might be a good idea to try different types of inks/watercolours before splurging on a big set.

**Q: What is the difference difference between the Bombay ink and the hydrous watercolor?**
A: The Hydrus Watercolor can be reactivated with water after it's dry, and the Bombay Ink is waterproof. While wet, both act very similarly. Both are pigmented and do not use dyes, so neither will fade for many years, and both possess very similar transparency. Hydrus Watercolor will not clog pens because it readily dissolves in water.

**Q: Can these inks be used with dip pens for calligraphy?**
A: The Dr. PH Martin's Bombay India Inks can be ussed with dip pens for Calligraphy. They should not, however, be used in fountain pens, as it will clog them quickly, and the clean up effort is nearly impossible.

**Q: if you are a watercolorist, have you tried these, alongside more traditional wc paints? if so, how well did they perform together? (thank you)**
A: I've used these with both professional Holbein paint and student grade Winsor & Newton paint. They blend, mix and lift just the same.

**Q: How do you apply the ink?**
A: I use these inks as a permanent watercolor.  I allow the first layer to draw before the next.  All layers are very diluted.  It's a very concentrated ink and will go a long way.

These inks really are a pleasure to work with, intensely colourful and smooth to work with they really do inject a massive dose of colour into my work and take it to the “next Level” -if you have the money available I would definitely advise that you get both sets .
