Part** A: If you set Saute to Hi, pour loads of fat inside, followed by fatty meats and let it all burn dry, you will make LOADS of smoke. If you then throw a cup of water in, you'll get lots of steam...maybe even some flames if the water ignites in the oil. Steam and Smoke depends on what you cook and how you cook it, just like in a frying pan. **Q: Is the nonstick coating easily scratched?** A: I had a problem with the coating - stains and peeling after only a very few uses. Very disappointing. I didn’t want to throw the whole machine away and Lakeland found a supplier of spare bowls at around £25. They’re called Newells/Holmes (?) - phone 08000523615 (pan for Crock Pot model CSC024). Annoying but better than binning the whole thing. I saute then simmer, I saute then slow cook for the day, I steam fish on the Verandah so my house doesn't smell, I slow cook from raw, and I have barely touched the list of things this machine is capable of. It looks good, I am washing it by hand and the non stick is brilliant. The glass lid is great for checking on progress. I didn't do well wth cooking Sushi Rice in it, so if anyone has thoughts on that I would be glad to hear them, but if you work hard and want a slow cooker, go camping and want healthy food after a day walking, want to cook in one pot cleanly conveniently and above all well then this is the cooker for you.
