Manufacturer recommend age is 8 but if your prepared to be a bit more "hands on" it might be OK as its a pretty simple microscope. Journal would need reading assistance too... **Q: As it is a gift, I set it up and checked it. I found that whichever magnfication is used there is a spot in the middle of the field of view. Help!** A: Hi, I can confirm if you refer to steps 8 and 9 of the included instruction booklet on page 7, it will explain clearly how to set the microscope up. Please ensure you have inserted the batteries to work the light and a pre-made slide to test the microscope. Many Thanks, Rosie - Learning Resources UK **Q: does this have prepared slides and blank slides for them to make their own?** A: We thought it would be of good quality , as this model microscope is also sold by the science museum, it is a frustrating toy, especially disappointing for the child who was so excited to receive it. I don't know which model we should have bought but this was a waste of money. We think that you should take advice, perhaps the school science teacher ?
