The Day Light lamps show colours to their full potential and ensures healthy plant growth Things to Know About Starting an Aquarium How to Combat New Tank Syndrome Add a product like Filter Start with your first couple of fish, which will help your filter bacteria to mature. Start your tank with hardier fish varieties, adding more fish gradually as the tank matures. Feed sparingly to begin with. Monitor your water quality. Carry out weekly water changes of around 20% for the first 6 weeks. this will help dilute the waste levels and balance the tanks. The Nitrogen Cycle converts toxic waste into a safer compound The Nitrogen Cycle The aquarium is a small, 'closed' environment; this means harmful waste can build up quickly because there is not enough water volume to dilute the waste. The breakdown of fish waste, excess food, dead plant material and other organic matter will cause invisible toxic compounds to build up in the aquarium water. There is a natural process called the Nitrogen Cycle which can be recreated in the aquarium to convert toxic waste into safer compounds. The Nitrogen Cycle is carried out by essential 'nitrifying' bacteria which sets up home in the biological media in the filter. These bacteria naturally take a couple of months to become established in the filter. During this maturing process, fish keepers often experience fish losses caused by the build-up of invisible toxic compounds, which is referred to as 'New Tank Syndrome'. The main reasons for New Tank Syndrome are Over feeding Over populating Over lighting Poor maintenance Looking After the Aquarium Daily Care Routine Feed fish – ideally two or three times per day as much as they will eat in a couple of minutes (remove any uneaten food). Check fish health – look for differences in appearance or behaviour that may indicate they are unwell. Clean algae off the glass. Always remove dead fish and plant matter immediately to avoid water pollution. Check the aquarium temperature is stable and at the correct level. Weekly Care Routine Top up any water evaporation – ensure you treat the tap water with Tapsafe. Add a plant food such as Floraboost and trim and remove dead leaves. Clean the lamps and the outside of the aquarium with distilled water and dry them with a clean, soft cloth. Use an Interpet Test Kit to reveal any water quality problems. Monthly and Annual Care Routine Carry out a 25% water change monthly. For more information on how to carry out a water change, see www.interpetaquatics.co.uk. Replace the filter media monthly. Replace aquarium lamps annually. Review: Great product and amazing value for what you get! - This tank looks beautiful and comes with everything you need to start keeping cold water or freshwater tropical fish! I looked around many big brand pet stores and garden centre aquatics for a good tank and all of them wanted more than the £165 I bought this one for and that was for just a tank alone, with no filter, heater etc. Many of which were smaller tanks than this too. Furthermore, they expected you to get it home yourself or pay even more money for delivery. This superior tank on the other hand, showed up the next day at my doorstep with no delivery charge! The curved edges to the glass make the tank look a lot nicer in the room than other tanks I have previously owned with straight corners. I have had the tank up and running for about two weeks now with two tropical fish for the moment and some plants. All of which seem to be doing very well. The heater is performing excellently! I have set it to 25 degrees and the thermometer that came with the tank that I have placed on the opposite side to the heater is showing the exact same temperature. There are only two negatives about this thank, neither of which would stop me from purchasing this tank though. Firstly, if you keep tropical fish in the tank then you'll end up with a lot of condensation gathering on the inside of the tank hood. This is unavoidable but when you lift the hood on the tank up it causes a large amount of water to fall down the back of the tank which could drip down the wires and get into the electricity socket. So remember to have a "Drip Loop" on your wiring and a towel at the ready when lifting the lid. (There is a smaller flap for feeding the fish though, so don't worry, you won't need to do this every time you put food in the tank.) Secondly, the tank would be better if it had three lights rather than two. The tank looks great with the two lights it has but I like to have a moonlight blue light on in the evening as my tank is in my bedroom. This looks best with just one light on rather than two as otherwise it is too bright. Due to there only being two light sockets, I have to unscrew one of the hot lamps with a towel manually and change it for the blue lamp. If the tank had three lamp sockets I could just simply turn off the two daytime bulbs and flick on the moonlight one. Having said that though, this has been a great purchase and I would 100% recommend it.
Review: Great tank, bad courier! - This is an attractive and functional tank. The hinged lid makes maintenance and water changes easier and there is also a plastic inner cover to protect the lights from condensation. It is very easy to clean to curved front as there are less corners for the algae and dirt to get lodged in. The included filter is of good quality and is extremely quiet (almost silent when the optional bubble function is turned off). The lighting is effective and the blue night light is very pretty. Although I am not using this tank for a tropical aquarium, the included heater is the same as the one I use in my tropical tank which is also a very effective piece of equipment, and is discreet. Overall I am very happy with this purchase. The tank is excellent value for money if you are looking for a basic set up for a small aquarium. The only problem I had was with the courier company (Yodel). Firstly the driver dropped the package marked fragile into my building before complaining about the weight of the box! Luckily the tank itself was ok but one of the light bulbs was badly smashed inside the tank. This meant I had to spend a lot of time making sure all of the tiny fragments were gone before setting up the tank. As always, desertcart were wonderful in solving this problem and gave me a partial discount which more than covered a replacement bulb.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What Size measurement is the tank**
A: Measurement answers given do not provide 120 Litres, quite easy to just do the maths. Either the tank must be at lot smaller than 120L or the dimensions must be greater

**Q: I have 8 large gold fish 4-5 inches long will they fit in ok**
A: 120 litres really is not big enough volume of water for 8 large goldfish. You may get away with 3-4 fish of the size you have got but only if you change at least 25% of the water each week using a dechlorinator so as not to affect the bacteria in the filter as goldfish expel a lot of waste and the water change helps to dilute the nitrates.

**Q: Hi. How many small fish (5cm) do you think can comfortably fit in this tank? (120 litre one) thanks**
A: Hi Sarah, I seem to have caused some confusion, for which I apologise - Vince'. I would say 12 x 5cm fish should be safe in 120 litres of water.---- To clarify:120 Liters = 26.39631 UK gallons 26 UK Gallons will do.So at one inch of fish per gallon, you can have 26 inches of fish in your (26 UK Gallon) 120 litre tank. Your fish are 5 centimetres each in length, which is Two Inches long (don't count the fins). How many times can 2 go into 26 = 13Rounding-down the figures, because the substrate and decor is not water.I would say 12 x 5cm fish should be safe. You can increase that by 50% in a mature well planted tank with suitable filtration. That 'rule' I have quoted to you has been around for decades. Do not take this 'rule' to the extremes, obviously One Twenty-Six inch fish works by this 'rule', but would fail in practise? So, stop applying the rule at fish greater than 7cm long..?

**Q: Is it standalone? i.e. does it need plumbed in or an electricity feed?**
A: You have to change the water manually, there is no plumbing for water. The light and filter pump require to be plugged into a mains socket (pair)

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Great Little Tank.
*by 2***S on 10 June 2013*

Mine arrived today. Meant to be an Amazon Prime Saturday delivery, but decided to come on Monday instead. I was a bit worried with the state of the packing, but everything looks OK so far. It also seems very good value. I haven't set it up yet, as I'm still undecided whether to go for the stand (even though they say there is no warranty without it), as it's useless for stashing an external filter in. And on that subject: I'm assuming the small hatch in the front of the lid is for fish feeding, but what is the hatch on the right at the rear of the lid ? It's shaped internally into a rectangle. Perhaps an external filter pipe I/O ? After having it for a while now, I'm completely sold on it. It's really good value for money. OK, I had to buy the stand, but it's very cheap on here and looks great with the tank on top. It's also OK for putting an external filter in as long as you're not bothered about losing the shelf. The condensation cover is good, as are the two 18 watt daylight lamps provided along with a spare. The heater is also well thought out and easy to use. I ran the supplied internal filter for a week, and it was fine. Very quiet, but not as quiet as the TetraTec EX700 external I replaced it with, but it will be a good spare. Overall it's a great tank for the money. Once I was used to the bow front all was good. Buy it now !
