## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is it low in sugar?**
A: Yes, sugar-free in fact. You could always sprinkle some on though if that's your preference.

**Q: Will these work on a Gibson Les Paul Special II?**
A: Short answer, yes. They will work on most guitars, provided they are the proper scale length. The high e is prone to snapping without much effort. Mine snapped after 2 weeks of regular use whilst loosening them up for guitar maintenance. Still good value though.

**Q: Do they play ok in C# standard?**
A: Yes they play fine in most tunings above standard A

**Q: I restrung my guitar with these strings (they are the right gauge for the guitar) but now all the frets are a semitone out of tune. Any way to fix?**
A: Make sure your intonation is set correctly. To check intonation, fret string at twelfth fret then do open harmonic at same fret. They should sound the same.if sharp or flat then adjust bridge saddle.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A gloriously brutal, buttery-smooth miracle for the financially ruined guitar hoarder.
*by A***R on 14 July 2026*

I have been playing the guitar for a quarter of a century. I currently own 14 of them. And despite my very best, most solemn vows to stop buying more, my self-restraint completely disintegrates every single time, failing with the exact same inevitability as a British Leyland gearbox on a damp Tuesday morning. Naturally, maintaining a fleet of instruments this size presents a catastrophic financial problem. Keeping 14 guitars freshly strung essentially requires the sort of capital investment normally reserved for sovereign wealth funds or small-scale space exploration. For years, I have stubbornly insisted on buying the ultra-premium Cobalt Ernie Ball Slinkys. But with the price of those creeping up to the point of sheer, unadulterated absurdity, I reached a breaking point. I am simply no longer willing to remortgage my house every time a D-string snaps. So, I took a deep breath, embraced poverty, and ordered these standard, non-Cobalt strings. I fully expected to feel like an absolute savage peasant. I braced myself for a tragic, muddy, lifeless tone. Worse still, I prepared my digits for a physical mauling, fully anticipating that sliding up the fretboard would feel exactly like lowering my bare hand into the abrasive, jagged maw of a great white shark. But the horrific mauling never came. In fact, these strings feel absolutely incredible. They are astonishingly responsive and significantly smoother than a freshly buttered penguin sliding down a glacier. More importantly, to my ears, they sound utterly indistinguishable from the astronomically priced Cobalt versions. Let us talk about the heavy artillery. I string up my guitars with these 11-54 Beefys for Drop Db, Drop C, and - believe it or not - Drop B on one of my longer-scale instruments. At these subterranean, bowel-loosening frequencies, the strings are an absolute triumph. They retain an immense, piano-like tightness on the low end, delivering a thunderous, guttural punch that hits you squarely in the chest, while still allowing for beautifully ringing, bell-like sustain on the top strings. They simply refuse to get flubby or lose their aggressive snap. For standard tuning and standard Drop D, I deploy the Regular Slinkys. They provide a glassy, shimmering clarity when played clean, but the moment you stamp on a distortion pedal, they instantly transform. They roar to life with a searing, articulate bite that cuts through a heavy mix like a petrol chainsaw tearing through a three-tier wedding cake. You get the perfect balance of slinky bendability on the high notes and rigid, chugging aggression on the bottom end. The economics of this situation are, frankly, staggering. I purchased a 4-pack of Regular Slinkys for £18, which works out to a faintly ridiculous £4.50 per pack. Then, I bought a 3-pack of these massive Beefys for £22, putting them at just £7.33 each. That is completely insane value for money. They may not be forged from mythical, hyper-expensive Cobalt, but I still feel that immediate, vital connection and deep, vibrating resonance with my instruments. In fact, there is only one glaring downside to all this immense financial saving. By no longer spending the GDP of a small nation on guitar strings, I now have considerably more disposable income lying around. Which means, inevitably, I am going to buy another guitar.
