Review: Pleasantly surprised - I bought a Kinetic for xmas for my other half and was unsure if our living room would have enough space. I did see one of these zoom attachments at the store and thought about getting one but I decided to leave it and see how we got on with the kinect first. Well xmas day came and it was soon apparent that our living room was not big enough. We have a few metres between the sofa and the TV and the kinect could only just about see us, the top of our heads and bottom of our legs were cut off. Playing games was quite hard and the kinect didn't seem to pick up a lot of our movements making it quite frustrating to use. We could have moved the sofa for some extra room but it's one of those huge 5 seated corner sofas so moving it every time you want to play a game would be a pain in the backside! I decided to go ahead and get one of these zoom attachments, but I was a little put off by all the bad reviews. I spent a lot of time researching on the net and it just seemed so negative towards this product. In the end I took the risk and placed the order as it could not be any worse than it is already! Once it arrived I unpacked it from its box and got to work with setting it up. At first I was quite apprehensive as I had previously read that it can be quite fiddly to fit and damage your kinect if your not careful, but I soon found out that really it is very simple and easy as long as you do it properly and use the protective sticker so don't know how people have managed to damage their kinect's with this! I have the kinect set up on top of the TV on one of these TV clips: http://www.desertcart.co.uk/gp/product/B004XV6ST4/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details and after turning the xbox on we ran through the kinect calibration again to make sure that we had everything set up correctly. It became apparent right away that the zoom made a huge difference, the kinect could now see a bigger area and was able not only to get us fully in the frame it also showed part of the floor infront of the us, something it was never able to do before and is something you need to play some games. Our movements now seemed to be more precise and games were much easier to play as the kinect now seemed to be working as you would expect it to. I am just disappointed that I didnt buy it sooner for xmas. If you have a small playing space then this is a great product. I honestly dont know why it has got so many bad reviews, its done everything it says on the box so I cant complain at all.
Review: Great product, easy to set up - I looked at loads of reviews on different sites for the Nyko Zoom Reduction Lens, and I am glad I chose to ignore and give this a go, it took 5 minutes to install and set up, I ensured I applied the protector cover, lined up sensor lens and green power indicator light with the Zoom Range Reduction Lens and with slight gentle adjustment easily fits into place, you can hear the zoom lens move into place on top of kinect sensor lens, and then its in place. It works in reducing playing sapce down, I was able to play between 3.5 ft and 4 ft away from sesnor/tv screen, and you can use for two players aswell, when setting up it will track and locate you in the "good" playing area, not "best" playing area, as the kinect is reading distance as normal, not zoomed distances, it is more than responsive enough, I'm really pleased with this item and have purchased some more as presents for family who also use kinect, from my personal experience I am glad I ignored all the negative reviews of which there are many, and went ahead and brought this, would recommend to anyone. It works brilliantly !!!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: dose this item contains it's own power supply adaptor or not?**
A: It uses its own power adapter. I have both a Kinect XBox 360 and a Kinect for Window and each one uses a power module. I bought the Kinect for windows which came with the power module. I was given the XBox 360 unit, I did not buy it, so I do not know there.

**Q: Will this work on all games that calls for kenect sensor? Got my son a cabelas hunting games n it calls for a kenect just wanting to know if it will**
A: This is will work with any Xbox 360 Kinect sensor. I've used it for a smaller space. I only stop using it because I didn't want to use a Kinect anymore. So it is still good.

**Q: Is a Nyko original product?**
A: it is original but sincerelly is a waste of money because it does not work as expected

**Q: Anyone know what's the new field of view (fov) for the camera with these lenses? the unmodified kinect 360 has a fov of about 45 degrees.**
A: The same i believe

### ⭐ Buy at your own risk!
*by F***N on 11 September 2013*

I bought this against my better judgment and unfortunately I now have a classic case of buyers remorse. I have been using my Kinect with 'My Shape' which is an exercise game. I've not been able to get full use out of this game due to a lack of space in my living room. Anything that involves big side lunges or steps backwards usually ends up with me falling over my couch, or the Kinect not being able to register my movements correctly. So I over optimistically sent sent for the Nyko Zoom, naively telling myself that perhaps the bad reviews that it had were a result of customers not properly re-configuring the Kinect. I was wrong! I installed it according to the instructions, reconfigured the Kinect settings, and immediately I could see that it did make a difference as to how much of me the Kinect could see. However there was also a vignette type halo around the outer edges of the image where the camera could not see anything and lots of jumping 'artifacts' in the image. Things got worse when I loaded up My Shape. The game creates a superimposed live image of yourself in a virtual environment so you can see yourself do the exercises. With the Nyko Zoom installed, instead of just picking up me, the Kinect camera was mistaking other objects and bits of furniture for players too. The Kinect was also not recognising my light coloured hair, erasing it from the final image. I tested the Kinect with a block punching game, and with the Nyko Zoom, the Kinect seemed to be confused about where my head and torso started, and the result was that the blocks appeared too low for me to reach. Even trying to maneuver around the menu system was a nightmare and very inaccurate. Mysterious 'ghost' hands where appearing and spontaneously selecting things on the menu even when I was out of shot! I spent ages trying everything to get this thing to behave, but the bottom line is, it doesn't work, and I suspect if such a device was viable in the first place, then Microsoft would have licensed one of their own. Maybe the Nyko zoom works for some games better than others. However for something like an exercise game, that records and tracks your progress and amount of calories burnt, the Kinect really needs to be as accurate as possible. The Nyko Zoom reduces the accuracy of the Kinect to such an extent that it just isn't fit for purpose.
