Easily as good as tool rests selling for double the price
Bought this tool rest for a 12 X 18 midi lathe with a 5/8" banjo, it fits perfectly. Looks very well made, heavy and no roughness to it at all. The surface the chisel rides on is a machined edge, not a spot-welded bar, so you don't have to deal with bad welds. This is a great replacement for the 6" cast iron rest that came with the lathe - very satisified!

Quality tool rest. And now a true 1" post!
Well built tool rest for a great price. Half the price of other rests I have purchased. The hard steel top bar should resist dents and nicks throughout its lifetime of use. And with a large lathe like my Laguna 24/36, a true 1" post tool rest is hard to come by. They have recently changed the spec on their 1" tool rests to be a true 1" post (25.4mm in the metric world). So, I am very pleased with its locking function. Those of you with larger lathes like Robust , Powermatic, Oneway, and Laguna, the new 1" tool rest should fit.

Well made, but one drawback.
Good tool but the support shaft is shorter than my other rests so will not extend upward far enough to be used on larger diameter bowls. This may not be a problem with your banjo.

It is too light weight
It works ok, and most of the time it is fine, but on certain pieces when doing skew work, I start getting chatter as I get further out from the center of the tool rest. The 12 inch rest is light enough that I am able to flex is some with my hands. The post is also slight smaller than my other 5/8" post which contributes to this as well, even when fully locked down if I bang the roughing gouge to much the tool rest will twist in the banjo.

So far so good!
As a beginning woodturner I am learning how to properly use the tools, so you can expect that I have had several occasions where I have had catches and tools chattering on the rest. None of these ( which a couple were fairly brutal) resulted in any deformation or damage to the contact surface of the rest. Product was nice and straight, with a nice smooth finish that allows me to glide my hand along it with out any friction or catches. Would absolutely recommend for someone one a budget and to upgrade from the paperweights that tend to be packaged with inexpensive mini lathes.

Fit like a Glove
Bought for my Delta MIDI wood lathe. This lathe can turn ~6” diameter x 36” with the bed expansion. I generally turn up to 14” long pieces. The lathe came with the standard 4” rest, so this upgrade is perfect!!

Undersized post
Seems solidly made, unfortunately the post is just a mm or so undersized, so won’t fit my Laguna lathe. I bought a different shaped tool rest from the same product listing, and the shaft fits my lathe fine. Manufacturer seems to have a consistency issue.
