## Overview

Winsor & Newton Liquin Original is a 75ml fast-drying oil painting medium that accelerates drying time by up to 50%, improves paint flow, and reduces brush stroke marks. It offers a semi-gloss finish and is ideal for glazing and layering techniques. Trusted by artists since the 1800s, this medium combines heritage craftsmanship with modern innovation to enhance your oil painting experience.

## Description

Winsor & Newton founders, Henry Newton and William Winsor were involved with the artists of their time - J.M.W Turner for example - and to this day. They have built the reputation on the quality and reliability of the products, combined with continual product development, improvement and innovation. However, while keeping true to the principles laid down by William Winsor and Henry Newton in the 1800’s we actively embrace enhanced ideas and technologies. This reliable favourite is a general purpose semi gloss medium which speeds drying, improves flow and reduces brush stroke retention.

Review: I love liquin! - This is such a versatile medium for different uses, such as improving the fluidity of paints, speeding up drying time, and glazing. A little goes a long way. I use it often in early layers of oil painting due to the quicker drying time (lean over fat is really about drying times, so even though liquin "feels fat" it should be considered leaner). Using too much will add a yellowish hue to paint - 4:1 paint to liquin seems to be about the limit. It sometimes seems very hard and jelly-like in the container, but it is non-newtonian and liquifies with kinetic energy, so you can just shake it vigorously if it solidifies.
Review: Great, speeds up drying - Great product. Takes a bit of time to get used to if you've never used a medium for oil painting, but it works perfectly. I use this when I use the glazing technique, and it dries very quickly (few hours) and then allows me to add another layer. Has a semi-gloss finish and you only need a little bit of it. Highly recommend.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is for**
A: Our most popular liquid medium, which will improve the flow of Oil and Alkyd colours for smooth brushwork, subtle blending or fine detail. It also increases translucency making it ideal for thin glazing. Mixes easily with a brush and flows readily. Liquin is a flammable, translucent gel, which quickly dries to a virtually non-yellowing film.

**Q: what is the difference between this and liquin original?**
A: I have used both sorts and I can say from my point of view not a lot of difference.I would suggest try both and see which one you get on with best.

**Q: I use lukas impasto but the chemicals are so strong i have to stop painting, does the w&n liquin impasto have harmful chemicals too?**
A: I have used this prod uct for some time without experiencing any harmful effects. If you can't find a product that is not causing discomfoet try wearing Latex gloves when you paint

**Q: I want to know please, will this thicken my oil paint and make it go further?**
A: It will thin it and therefore go further.Just use a little, wonderful for glazes. Can give a slight shine if you use too much.A small dollop on your palette and mix into oil paint or dip your brush in and then in the paint.Good Luck.I use it on canvas oil painting and I also use "liquid light " a more runny liquin for miniature oil paintings too.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great, speeds up drying

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good Product, BUT Buy the 750ml Bottle Instead
*by V***1 on 21 September 2016*

I am a professional oil painter and use Liquin a lot. This version (the original) is much easier to work with than Liquin Fine Detail and the gloss level when dry is much easier on the eyes (though it is on the verge of too glossy). Since this is a thick medium if you use a lot you can create different textures and more depth. The 750ml bottle of this product is on Amazon too for a better price per ml. Since this product lasts for a long time (> 1 year) it never hurts to have some lying around.
