The woods used to construct this model give a good rounded sound and the instrument will fit in very nicely on some of the songs I play within the Folk Band I perform with. This is a great little instrument to play as a starter and good enough to hold it's own for live performance. I would be surprised if you can find a fault with this little gem. My soprano also came with a case but a rather flimsy one with no padding. My concert uke case is hard wood with velvet lining inside made by Clearwater and if I remember rightly was about £20 but it does have a compartment for a tuner and plectrum as well as I zip up pocket on the outside. Hope this answers your query. **Q: is the top laminate or solid?** A: Hi David the one I bought is laminate top but don't let that put you off especially if you are a beginer uke player. It sounds great, gets great reviews from lots of people who have bought one and I am left handed and I even managed to swap the strings round and it still holds its tune. All in all a great uke for the price am i recommend it. S solid top uk ewill sound better in years to come but this one is good enough for me. I can't stop playing it. Hope this helps.
