Review: Weak hardware - The directions for this product are not very good but I had my old one (which is similar) to use as a reference so that helped. After getting it all put together I tested it and it seemed to lift ok, but was a little more difficult than my old lifter. The second time I tried it, the screws pulled right out of the arms and I had to catch the cover before it fell to the ground. This resulted in one of the arm bases nearly snapping (see pictures). I took the side panels of my hot tub off, and saw that the hardware provided with this product are just not good at all. The screws are so short they only go into the side panel, which is a thin plastic/vinyl material, and they are not long enough to go into the wood behind to provide some support to heave a heavy cover. I ended up using longer screws, 2" and 3" deck screws to anchor into the wood support behind the panels. However I still have the issue of the one side that looks very stressed and I am scared it will snap the next time I try to open the cover. I have contacted desertcart and the seller. The sellers phone goes straight to a voicemail. They did return my call but I could not answer and they said they would call back or I could email. They never called back and have yet to respond to my email. desertcart however has been great in helping me, as they always are. I am going to continue to modify the arm bases to make them more rigid. I am going to epoxy 2" aluminum bars that I have drilled holes into, onto each side and screw back into the wood/panels. I am hopeful that this will provide enough support for the cover. I will try to update in a few months after using this but I highly recommend people to not use the screws this one provides.
