Review: Is it worth getting? That depends... - Before purchasing this Vitamix dry grains container I read several reviews. Not just to determine if it lived up to its claims, but whether it was worth the investment. Because, let's be real, anything with the name "Vitamix" on it is going to be expensive. Plus, I already have two containers: the default 64 oz that came with my Ascent 3500 and the 48 oz stainless steel container that I purchased separately. So I had to decide if it was REALLY necessary and worth the money to buy another container. Especially after I read a review that claimed this dry container was exactly the same as the wet container. Spoiler alert: it's NOT the same. The difference between this container and the wet containers that are included with your machine are the blades. Visually, you can see they are somewhat different. The wet containers have blades that work to pull ingredients down like a vacuum to pulverize them. But the dry container blades push ingredients UP into the container. This is to minimize the risk of ingredients getting trapped under the blades and ensures a consistent grind. Put it this way: yes, you can technically use your wet container to achieve a similar result, just like you can use the dry container to blend smoothies, but the end result will likely not be as good as it would be if produced in the container for which it was intended. So here is what I would say: if you want the ability to grind dry ingredients but only occasionally, then I don't think it's worth getting a separate container. But if you like to grind your own coffee beans, create flour, chop nuts and/or make nut butters on a REGULAR basis then I absolutely do think it's worth the investment. If anything just to have a dedicated container for wet or dry and distribute the workload between two blade types. Is it necessary to get this container? No. You definitely don't NEED it. You can do these things in the wet container if need be. I just think the end result is better in this container for dry ingredients. It depends on how much of a perfectionist you are, how much storage you have for another container, and whether you plan to use it often enough to justify the price. Personally, I think it's worth it. But you may decide it's not. Hopefully this information helps you determine whether you should get it or forget it.

**Q: Does this container work with A3500 blender bought in Europe?**
A: No, this container doesn't work for an A3500 bought in Europe :(

**Q: What is the difference between the vitamix ascent 48 oz and the vitamix ascent 48 oz dry containers? are they interchangeable?**
A: I spoke with Vitamix Customer Service with this same question.  I learned the wet container draws the flow down into the blades spitting it out to the sides and then up and down again which is the best action to blend liquids.  The dry container does just the opposite - it draws dry ingredients from the sides/bottom and shoots it up to the top and then down the sides to be drawn into the blades and then up.  This action produces powders without heating the ingredients so quickly.  Many people think they can use the regular wet container to grind dry ingredients but it's the effect like a coffee grinder that cuts the dry material rather than pulverizes it.  Also I learned using the regular wet container to grind dry ingredients you will end up scaring your container and the lower 1/3 will be pitted and scarred because of the action of the blades sending the ingredients out to the sides and then up and down again.  If you don't care about your container, I guess you could use it that way.  I would not want a pitted scarred container.  Hope this helps.

**Q: does this work with vitamix 5300?**
A: I had the same question. Just got off the phone with Vitamix customer support and they confirmed that YES, IT IS COMPATIBLE with the 5300 series. I was confused because under the product details at Vitamix.com it says it's only compatible with the Ascent series, but when I opened the "View Blender Compatibility" tab after adding it to my cart it said it is compatible with the 5300. Well, even their official website includes conflicting information about its compatibility. so that's when I decided to call customer support. The customer service rep explained to me that all newer containers work with the older models, but the older model containers will not work with the newer blender models. I am happy to find this out since now I can get a container that holds an additional 16 oz. compared to the older model, and also throw it in the dishwasher since the older models are listed as not being dishwasher safe.

**Q: can this mill dried corn**
A: We have not tried corn but wheat and other grains and it came out very nice. I think it will make very good corn meal not sure if you can make corn flour

Awesome product. I have a 2007 Vitamix 5200 and it fit just fine. (also a testament to the longevity of Vitamix as a product). I don't know why I waited so long to get this container. I had been thinking about it for years and even bought several grain mills, but they just didn't cut it. I use this grains container to grind rye berries to make flour for my sourdough bread. It was fast, easy, and it did a great job.
