My daughter wanted the paddle boards to come along for the ride, so I wanted a "lock" solution to keep the boards safe on top of the car. I didn't want to bring the boards inside the hotel room due to their size. The steel core straps were secure during the journey (I would still check any straps periodically along any trip), and kept both paddle boards in place. Even though anyone could of most likely taken the boards off the car even with the security straps in place, it would of taken a bit of work to cut or loosen them up in order to slide the boards out. I had a piece of mind during my entire stay driving all over the area with the boards in place. They were worth the money. Both boards also made the trip back home. Familiarize yourself with the instructions that come with the straps and try them out before a trip. I thought the straps were broken, but then I remember a reviewer stating the straps needed to be threaded in a certain way. Once I figured it out, they were lock tight. I also wanted to mention, I can see the material cover fraying over time. Even though I used these only a limited amount of times, I noticed the fabric slightly fraying when the cam starts locking the straps in place. Locally, I will still use my nylon straps. For longer trips I will use the secure core lock downs. They are great robust straps for my intended purpose. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It works when used properlu. *by D***G on Reviewed in the United States πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ on November 12, 2018* A lot of reviewers said the keys were weak and I agree they are made of soft brass apparently. However I feel that kept lubed with a light oil or graphite powder (keep it off the white board/boats) made for locks, it will work if care is used. Upon installing the first strap I found that following the instructions it worked perfectly. So I ordered the second strap which I'll put on tomorrow. The keys with the 2nd strap seem a little bit huskier. Maybe they have been paying attention and have gotten a little bit of an upgrade in the key design Just a causal look see not a close inspection. Try these straps out and treat them with some care. I would remove them if you are just going on a day trip and use standard straps. IMHO, I consider them security devices not great tie downs since they don't have any stretch like a normal strap. Put the locking straps in the trunk in case you need them. If your kayak, windsurfers or whatever are stored out side a cover to protect the straps and or the boat would be a good idea. Check Amazon for silver covers with a bungee sewn in. I don't have the name handy but they are cheap enough that replacement in a year or two would not be too painful. Most covers seem to not endure in full on summer sun. Guess I'll go find the cover and review them. Use the straps as the instruction card directs. They aren't perfect but they would discourage a thief when placed to deter thieves from easy pickings. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Seems like a very sturdy lockable strap *by A***A on Reviewed in the United States πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ on August 19, 2020* Have used only twice so far but this strap is quite sturdy and the steel core running through it seems like a good diameter to prevent someone from cutting it. It tightens up well. I've read that the key is flimsy so have been careful when locking and unlocking and so far so good. At this point I think this is a good product, is well made and reasonably priced compared to others. Will know more over time.Update: after using several more times I still feel this is a good strap.
