And I don’t make that claim lightly; I own two sets of Arena 7s and one Arena 9 system. Audiophile-grade sound is rare in the gaming space, but the Arena 7 and 9 break that mold. The Caveats Now, let’s talk about the flaws. The biggest issue with the Arena 9 is the required USB connection for true surround sound. Even then, it’s not guaranteed. For example, the PlayStation 5 only supports upmixed 5.1 audio, and using optical or aux connections doesn’t help—they’re limited to upmixing by default. The same issue applies to the Arena 7, but to a lesser degree, as surround sound must be emulated regardless of the connection method. SteelSeries made a misstep with the Arena 9. Review: I’m not an audiophile by any means… - My friends and I live across country from each other, but we still manage to hang out every night in Discord. We watch movies, play games, or just chat in voice. My laptop has a garbage microphone like most do, so I’ve been on the hunt for a good headset. I’ve had two sets of Steel Series gaming headsets. One wired (and I tried to take my laptop for a walk far too many times) and the Arctis 9’s. The Arctis head set is really nice and I love that it is wireless but they kill my ears. I’ve tried all the hacks and nothing worked. I’d had my eye on these desktop speakers for some time but was afraid to make such an expensive purchase with all the mixed reviews. It took FOREVER for these speakers to arrive for being a prime purchase. I ordered them the 11th and got them yesterday (the 18th). I was just too excited lol. Once they arrived I got them all set up and immediately they need a driver update. No surprise there. So I do the update and the light on the right speaker starts blinking purple and they won’t work. I’m trying everything in my pcs settings and nothing works. I try messing with the Steel Series GG settings, and still no luck. I try restarting my pc… nothing is working. So I google. I see this is an issue for a few people after updating the drivers and I’m panicking. Some people are stating they had to return the speakers because of this issue and that Steel Series doesn’t have a fix. Now this is the biggest reason I’m writing so much detail in this review. I thought for sure I would have to return them, but after I restarted my pc and reopened the steel series app… probably 10 minutes after, I get another notification to update the drivers. I figure what the hell, can’t get worse. Update the drivers again and voila! They worked! So, if you are getting the purple flashing light of death, I suggest updating the drivers again! I couldn’t find anywhere on the internet people stating there is a fix for this now, so I wanted to make sure to include it in the review. Hopefully if others have this issue they will find this and be able to fix the issue without having to send the speakers back. These speakers do sound amazing! I got the Arena 7’s and they fill my 400sqft apartment with enough sound that I worry I might annoy my neighbor. They sound better than the headphones imo. The lights are fun to play with, and they can be set pretty bright, or off. They have a ridiculous amount of adjustability. You can sync them to your games to tell you different things like your health. I can set them up in Discord to represent different notifications, like who is talking or if someone left or arrived. The possibilities seem endless. I do use these in conjunction with the Steel Series Arena Microphone and my friends stated they couldn’t hear anything but my voice on my end. And when I first got the speakers up and running I did have them pretty loud. The Mic is amazing and I actually forget I’m wearing it. Idk why it isn’t sold on desertcart, but it works beautifully with this speaker set up for people who have sensitive ears like I do.

A: By far. I actually own the Arena 7’s and they’re the best I’ve ever owned. I’ve had quite a few Logitech products.

**Q: Does it also work on Xbox series x?**
A: Not officially, no. What you would probably have to do is have your Xbox route audio through HMDI and then hook these speakers up to your monitor/television’s audio output.

**Q: Will this work on iMac 2021?**

I’m trying everything in my pcs settings and nothing works. I try messing with the Steel Series GG settings, and still no luck. I try restarting my pc… nothing is working. So I google. I see this is an issue for a few people after updating the drivers and I’m panicking. Some people are stating they had to return the speakers because of this issue and that Steel Series doesn’t have a fix. Now this is the biggest reason I’m writing so much detail in this review. I thought for sure I would have to return them, but after I restarted my pc and reopened the steel series app… probably 10 minutes after, I get another notification to update the drivers. I figure what the hell, can’t get worse. Update the drivers again and voila! They worked! So, if you are getting the purple flashing light of death, I suggest updating the drivers again! I couldn’t find anywhere on the internet people stating there is a fix for this now, so I wanted to make sure to include it in the review. Hopefully if others have this issue they will find this and be able to fix the issue without having to send the speakers back. These speakers do sound amazing! I got the Arena 7’s and they fill my 400sqft apartment with enough sound that I worry I might annoy my neighbor. They sound better than the headphones imo. The lights are fun to play with, and they can be set pretty bright, or off. They have a ridiculous amount of adjustability. You can sync them to your games to tell you different things like your health. I can set them up in Discord to represent different notifications, like who is talking or if someone left or arrived. The possibilities seem endless. I do use these in conjunction with the Steel Series Arena Microphone and my friends stated they couldn’t hear anything but my voice on my end. And when I first got the speakers up and running I did have them pretty loud. The Mic is amazing and I actually forget I’m wearing it. Idk why it isn’t sold on Amazon, but it works beautifully with this speaker set up for people who have sensitive ears like I do.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cleanest sounding PC speakers I have ever owned.

This was a massive upgrade from my previous Logitech Z623 or Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speakers, and are easily the best desktop computer speakers I have ever owned. Build Quality: I was very tired of the dusty crackly volume knobs and analog connections on my old speakers, so it was a delight to connect these to my PC with an optical cable and never hear a crackling sound again. The volume knob is also very clean and seems less prone to capturing dust, although at very high volumes the knob is a bit sensitive and fiddly. Overall the build quality is very solid though, while retaining a compact form factor that disguises how big they sound! Connectivity: I love that I can use an optical cable for the cleanest possible audio signal and never deal with crackling noises again. I have a high end sound card in my PC, but you don't actually need one at all with these speakers - you can just connect them with USB! This means you can even use these speakers by just plugging them into certain game consoles that support USB audio devices. The built in Bluetooth connectivity is also great, allowing me to connect my tablet or phone at the same time. This has been very useful when I just want to play some music but don't want to turn my whole computer on. Audio Quality: I was concerned that all the extra features on these speakers would come at the cost of the sound quality but I was wrong, these speakers sound fantastic and all the extras are just the icing on top. The downward facing subwoofer was a game changer for me - my desk sits in a corner next to two windows, and my old subwoofer would rattle the windows relentlessly. With the Arena 7's downward facing sub, I get clean full bass sound even at high volumes while my windows barely even budge anymore. In a word, these speakers sound CLEAN. Lows, mids, highs, at low volume or high volume - it doesn't matter, it all comes through crisp and clean. Even at max volume the sound remains balanced and distortion free. I am particularly impressed with the clarity of the lower mid range, which would tend to get muddled or lost on my Logitech or Klipsch speakers. Lighting: To be honest I could do without the lighting, I find flashing lights synced to music very distracting and annoying, and it's definitely bright enough to be distracting, so I leave this just turned off most of the time (you can just double tap the button on the right speaker to toggle the lights). It's neat how there's a light ring on the base of each speaker and lights on the back of the speakers that all fire independently, creating some neat effects out of the box with no configuration. Software: In my opinion you really don't need the software for these speakers - they are so naturally well balanced already that I have the mindset "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", but you can use the SteelSeries GG app to mess around with a 10-band parametric equalizer or simulated surround sound if you want. (IMO If you want surround sound though, just save up for the Arena 9's and get real surround sound instead.) One admittedly cool feature of the app is that you can map the lights on the speakers to screen areas, creating a really cool immersive lighting effect for gaming where the colors on your monitor are also splashing onto the wall behind. Unfortunately, SteelSeries has not put out a Linux compatible app though, so these features are not natively supported on devices using SteamOS.
