Off Grid Living Should Put This Resource At The Top Of The List
While I have not yet had an opportunity to put knowledge into practice, the information provided reflects the knowledge of the author on the subject matter. Whether you are a novice or a fellow expert on the subject, you will likely learn something new. For example, he talks in detail about driven or sand point water wells among other things, that can save you time and money if you go off grid. I also like watching the A Frame 14X14 cabin video he has on YouTube.com. He does not cover everything one might need to know for off grid living, but this resource fits in well with other topics on the subject matter. I purchased several copies of this book and other resources to give to family members under the Christmas Tree. For anyone who is paying attention, the handwriting is on the wall. The world in which we live is about to change, and there is growing evidence that supports the idea that it is not going to be for the better. Those individuals who will be able to extend their freedoms the longest will be those who are taking the time now to learn this type of information, develop skills, and gather resources for off grid living.

My oldest son loves this book.
This was a Christmas present for my oldest son. He talks a lot about what is in it. He recommends it to anyone who wants to live off grid. He has plans to do it as well. From my son, Eric. This book is amazing. I first got it several years ago when I bought the e-book and last Christmas my mom purchased the print book for me. I wanted the physical book so I could always have it right at hand. This book tells you how to build a cabin which can be expanded significantly. As the title says it is a manual for off the grid living. It shows you how to provide your own utilities - electricity, waste management, water sourcing, food production, etc. The book also makes suggestions about how one might make money. It is a excellent addition to my off grid library.

great resource for small, practical homesteading
Although I think this may be a combination of various articles (it doesn't read particularly smoothly or as if it were a single book), the information contained is certainly worth the cost. This author has some good videos up on youtube, so check those out before buying. While I'm not convinced he and I have the same politics, it's a book about building small houses and the reasons for doing so aren't overly emphasized. I have to salute the author for putting this book together in such a practical way.If you've got a $100K or two and want to build a "cozy cabin" of a thousand-or-two square feet with great AirBnB potential, then this is not the book for you, but if you want to carve yourself 200-400 square feet of practical living space for just a few thousand dollars (and a lot of elbow grease), this book could be invaluable.

Excellent off grid book and writer!
Lamar has been living off the grid for many years. After building his own cabin, he continues to power it with solar panels and a wind turbine. He is a tremendous authority on living the off grid life style.

Excelllent Book
This book was even better than I expected. You can tell that the author Lamar Alexander put his heart and soul in to it. I found it extremely informative and well written. There is a lot of detail, but Lamar does an excellent job of simplifying things. I think just about anyone that is even remotely handy with tools could take this book and build an off the grid cabin which is exactly what I plan to do. Thanks Lamar. By the way, you might want to check out Lamar's videos on youtube, They will give a good idea of what it takes to live off grid.

Love this book
Love this book. I have been "of the mindset" most of my life, ever since reading "My Side of the Mountain" as a boy. Scoutmaster..blah blah blah, Mr. Alexander has obviously bound his website in a cover, but who gives a $#%@. There is enough covered in this book for any Prepper or Survivalist to pick up at least one, two or many, new ideas which in my book is value enough. It is shelter, energy, waste, sanitation focused. Specifically. It does not cover food, trade goods, medicine, edibles, weapons, Bushcraft, Animal husbandry, cordage, wife / husbandry, aliens, Russians, Wombat and most importantly, how to make Single Malts and Meade....just sayin.

DIY for real
I like the info provided. I'm not sure when we might use it but would like to. It would be especially good for 1 of my daughter's and her family, as they have been left some land. If this is truly what the room could be built for, it would be great for weekends. I am concerned if this could actually be done for $2000, at today's prices.
