**Q: Are these pedals suitable for riding with sneakers or sandals? I don't have special cycling shoes**
A: Yes, definitely - my wife cycled the Ride London 60 this year using these pedals wearing a pair of ordinary running shoes. The small raised lugs on the pedal help grip the sole and maintain good foot/pedal contact. We looked at other alternatives, but they all seemed to use protruding metal screws to provide that grip, which seemed more likely to scratch your shins.

This is a really great pedal, because it acts like a cycling shoe even when you're not wearing a cycling shoes! Cycling shoes have very stiff soles, so that the energy from the calves/thighs, is transmitted efficiently to the cranks, etc, etc by stopping the foot sole bending at the ball of the foot. This pedal is so deep, that it does a good imitation of what a cycling shoe does, even when wearing normal shoes/boots. This means if you fit these pedals and you're middle aged or older, you're unlikely to get horrible calf cramps on longer rides...
