It was a challenge getting it over the butt but it needs to be tight to work. There is no space between the loops. It is difficult to get shells in and they are basically on top of each other. They are pretty easy to get out as long as you remember to push the shell up from the bottom first. It performs the basic function of having extra shells handy at a great price. If that's what you need, then this will work just fine for you.
