LED flex strips have areas with exposed copper, the aluminum extrusion is not insulated and they can short circuit when there’s no barrier. FYI mylar is a polyester film.. the double sided mounting tape supplied with most strips is adequate to insulate it. If the led strip will be upside down then a 3M VHB automotive mounting tape is less likely to let the led strip peel down. If the proffered plan is to use a glue rather than a tape, then a clear spray on finish can be use to insulate the channel. **Q: My led strip is too bright for my application, even on the lowest setting. any suggestions for reducing light transmittance on these covers?** A: You can reduce brightness by reducing voltage to the led strip. I do not know your application but a voltage adjustable power supply will work as long as it delivers enough amps to drive the leds. I think one light strip of about 16 feet draws about 6 amps. In a car that produces up to 14.5 volts, a dc to dc reducing power supply would do it. Hook it up and with a volt meter and a small screwdriver turn the potentiometer off the power supply to set voltage to desired light output. **Q: Does the white lens distort the color changing LED’s?** A: No **Q: Can these be used for a straight edge for a circular saw?** A: if you mean as a saw guide, then no.
