Review: I never knew my guitar was capable of sounding so in tune - This thing has literally transformed my acoustic guitar. I've never used a tuner. While I can tune 2 notes in perfect unison, I've never fully gotten to grips with the inherent tuning problems of guitars - particularly my acoustic with its non adjustable bridge. I'm always re-tuning to "sweeten" the sound depending on where I am on the neck. I'm never satisfied. If the open E sounds great, the open D sounds like garbage and so on. Moving higher up the neck, things are even worse. Tune for high positions, low positions sound like garbage. I'd actually begun to think that the problem was more serious, that my guitar's intonation was just junk. And then I read about James Taylor's "sweetened" tuning, and the fact that it was a preset in this tuner sealed the deal. First thing I did when I received the Peterson was to try the sweetened acoustic preset. No need to think about how many cents to detune particular strings, it just reconfigures what those strings should be - you just get the strobe to a standstill as you normally would. The tuner is very accurate and responsive, and I was able to get each string bang on target. Played a few open chords. Every one of them sounded in tune. Played some barre chords higher up the neck. Same thing. Played some high position chords that have open strings mixed in. Any conflict was barely noticeable (usually it's horrendous on my guitar). I played the thing for hours in absolute bliss, without once thinking "damn that sounds a little off." The thing even has a setting to sweeten DADGAD - a favorite tuning of mine which again I've always had trouble getting a "stable" tuning with. Tuned to the Peterson sweetened version, it just sounded incredible everywhere. Apparently you can also create your own presets for other tunings, which I'll explore in the future. If that weren't enough, it also deals with another long standing frustration of mine - playing with a capo. You always have to make some tuning adjustments, and luckily the Peterson has a capo offset function so that you can still apply the sweetening preset to a capoed instrument. Unsurprisingly, this triggered another couple of hours of blissful playing as I enjoyed the sweet sound of a perfectly tuned 7th fret capoed guitar. With all that in mind, I would probably be prepared to excuse any fiddliness in the design (others have complained), but luckily I didn't find it very fiddly. Once I worked out how to position the clamp and the arm to get the screen facing you the right way up (harder than it looked for me!), I found the buttons reasonable to use. Yes they're tiny, but they're always gonna be tiny on a clip-on tuner. There's only 3 of them so it's never an issue to feel them out with your finger. The display is clear and functional, absolutely no issues with it at all. No, they're not exactly cheap as tuners go, but I'm completely happy with the value considering the quality and what it's done for my guitar. Excellent!
Review: The Benchmark Of All-Instrument Tuners - You don't have to look further for the "best" tuner; this is it! If you need a spot-on tuner, that will work on your bass-guitar, regular acoustic or electric guitar, or even your flute or clarinet, then this is the one to get. I have tried it on all of these, and it provides perfect tune in all. I've owned tuners from almost all major manufacturers, and while some come close to the Strobo-clip HD, none have been able to match its speed, accuracy and legibility. It's fantastic to have no lag-time in display, or doubt about which direction to turn the tuning knobs, or in the case of my clarinet, how far in or out to adjust the mouthpiece for a perfect B-flat reference tone. Likewise, for my flute, which on occasion requires a check of the mouthpiece tube/body insertion point. I was hesitant to spend more than the usual amount for a tuner, but some others are nearly as expensive, yet are not nearly as good. I've read a very few bad reviews, but when the source was considered, I realized I had to try a Strobo-Clip for myself. I'm extremely delighted that I did. Now I have a benchmark with which to calibrate all my other tuners, which are mostly of the sound-hole type (Korg Rim-Clip and a smaller one from D'Addario). These can work well on-stage, but can be fussy about where they are placed on the sound hole. Not so with the Strobo-Clip, which works anywhere you can clip it on.! Well, nuff said, take a chance (and with desertcart's easy return policy there is no real difficulty) and try one for yourself... You'll probably come to the same conclusion I did; why didn't I buy a Strobo-Clip years ago? The other features of this product are also great (like sweetened tuning and altered tuning, but honestly, it is alone worth the price just to have the easy of use, and accuracy it provides. Consider poor ratings of this tuner as either extremely rare instances of an issue with the tuner, or more often, improper operation by the end-user. I have had no issues, and the battery-life is certainly as good as any other tuner I've ever had. That is to say, turn it off when you're done; don't wait for auto-shutdown. All in all it'l the best clip-on tuner money can buy, and a bargain when that is considered.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is there a preset for dobro?**
A: I am not sure exactly what you mean by preset. There are 2 sweetened tunings specifically for dobro, and if you don't want a sweetened tuning you just select the standard (equal temperament) tuning. It just shows you what note you are closest to regardless of how you have your dobro tuned. I used the USB interface to remove all tunings except equal, so I don't have to worry about getting it in a funny mode by fat-fingering the tiny buttons that are all jammed up next to each other (still a sore point with me!).

**Q: Can this be used to tune a diatonic harmonica?**
A: The clip tuner responds to vibration, so if think you can actually hold a steady note on a harmonica the tuner will read it... the challenge for you will be reading it while it’s clipped on the harmonica. Next, you’re going to have lots of fun tweaking your reeds to accommodate your playing style... good luck with this project! I would suggest an app called ClearTune for your phone, then you can see the notes as you play them on your phone, before spending money on the Petersen. Good luck!

**Q: willl this work on a pedal steel my stroboflip led screen died and i dont have the money for a new one?**
A: It works well on my steel (2003 Sierra U12) in 90% of circumstances but sometimes has trouble finding the note quickly on stages that have loud subwoofers beneath. But highly recommended anyway!

**Q: How do I tune it to have a European violin and an acoustic guitar among all the instruments??**
A: Violins are in the preset list along with lots of acoustic guitars. It can also be programmed with custom tunings for anything I could imagine doing with a clip-on tuner. If you're serious about getting this you need to go to the Peterson website and download its manual so YOU can figure out what it does and how it does it. Be sure to find information on Peterson Connect to learn about custom tunings and how those are done.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Super Sweet Tool !
*by S***E on April 20, 2026*

I have been playing guitar for over sixty years and perfect tuning is always a challenge. At least it used to be! A word of advice - approach it with a bit of patience, especially at the beginning, and you will have a perfectly tuned guitar the first chord that you play. The screen rotates left when the string is flat and right when it's sharp. The goal is to have it absolutely still with no rotation at all. I had to hold the button what seemed like forever to turn on my old tuner and the same to turn the stupid thing off. Push the button on this one and it instantly lights up and is ready to go. Also, it is very compact, so no problem at all leaving the tuner attached to the guitar in the case. I live in the desert and have to have the guitars in their cases or they will dry out and break apart! :( This one is highly adjustable and very easy to aim directly toward you, so you don't have to strain to see it. I have to send one back that would only function parallel to the guitar neck, no adjustability, which means somebody would have to tell you if it was in tune or not. 🤷‍♂️ I can't imagine anyone not being happy with this one. I read a complaint I believe about the little arm that holds the screen to the clip being thin and eventually will break. But there is no reason to twist the screen once you have set it because like I say it is compact and will easily go into the case in the usable position. So that little arm doesn't have to have any twisting going on. Should last forever.
