Let's face it, the day of the MagLite multi-cell lights has effectively come and gone, except they're still the only legal way for the private individual to carry a truncheon in many locales. A modern CREE pocket light puts out more light & runs longer on its single-AA battery than these old dogs w/ their xenon bulb sucking down the juice & putting out meager light can manage, but it won't do you any good to huck it at someone who's perpetrating a physical attack; that's why some folks still like having their old monster MagLites to hand. This light bulb doesn't really put out any more light than the old style incandescent [if that's your objective, you can get there but it requires replacing the entire internal head of your 'Lite, and it will run you 7-10x what this bulb does], but it will make your battery consumption go WAY down, and it puts out a whiter, more even beam with a bright core and no 'holes' in the spill so you can effectively just "set it & forget it" with the 'Lite's adjustable beam [no longer required, basically.] I tried one of the competitor's bulbs listed here on A-zon, & had to return it because it didn't fit [I could have made it work, but at the cost of these things I shouldn't have to.] This one was a case of "Unscrew head all the way, pull out old 2-prong bulb & plastic socket adapter, put this in place, screw down retainer & replace light head on end of tube. Done." If it was significantly brighter than the original bulb, I would have given it 5 stars instead of just 4, but I'm a fiend w/ a serious jones for bright, snappy lighting so I'm a tough sell. Get this for your old MagLite & be happy. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ What a Difference *by S***N on Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2018* This is a drop in replacement for the old bulb. I had 4 year old weak batteries in the flashlight and got a pale yellow light from the original bulb. I dropped in this LED bulb, night and day the difference, without even changing the batteries. It puts out a reasonably bright white light and might even be brighter in my flashlight with fresh batteries. The one down side to this LED, is as you widen the beam focus, a dark area starts appearing in the middle of the beam. There is a happy medium on the beam width and dark area for walking purposes, so it is not a big deal to me. I like the heft and feel of the big Maglight and this LED bulb gave me a reason to keep it! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great bulb at a great price *by B***. on Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2018* Great bulb at a great price. I also purchased the LITT LED bulb for $15.99, advertised at 350 lumens, but the light from this CREE bulb appears to be brighter and more focused. The difference could be because the light from the LITT bulb is more dispersed, so maybe it puts out more light in total. I don't know for sure since I had to "eyeball" it.
