Our current carseat has a max weight of 65 lbs, but only of 45 lbs. if used with the latch system. So, I can use the carseat until my kid is 65 lbs IF I use install it with the seatbelt, but if I use the latch system to install, the kid's weight maxes out at 45 lbs. Our pediatrician explained that the reason for this is that the latch system is sufficient for 45 lbs in the case of an accident. If you install the carseat with a seatbelt, the seatbelt takes part of the force, so the child can weigh more than 45 lbs. Similar thing with a booster seat: With a booster seat, the seatbelt takes on part of the weight of the child rather than the latch system entirely holding onto the weight of the child + seat. I realize I don't actually have an answer to the question (I was looking through the Q&A with the same question in mind).
