Although, I live in the dessert, and don't ever plan on getting colder than 20°. **Q: Can I use this for general rust protection, i.e. to replace Boeshield (a rust inhibitor) for my tools?** A: I believe you can as it has worked for me so far. However, I don't know if I would use it for tools as it's primary purpose is as a lubricant. This is where it shines. It seems a bit expensive to use soley as a rust inhibitor. **Q: I've heard them claim this is the official product used by the United States Marines, any Marines on here that can confirm? And give a honest opinion on it's performance in the field?** A: Last I checked, the Marine Corps was still using the original Break-Free CLP formula. They do have a limited contract with Slip 2000 that has just been renewed for a larger order. You can tell items available for military usage by looking at national stock numbers. It's a thicker/heavier weight oil than the slip 2000 gun lube. The slip 2000 gun lube is thicker/heavier than say Hoppe's gun oil or Remoil. The slip 2000 family of oils are synthetic and are my favorite. They penetrate well and don't flash off when they get hot. I use the slip 2000 EWL for my AR rifles and SMG's. I use the slip 2000 gun lube for all my pistols. I've tried different greases.
