Apple MacBook Pro Late 2021 with Apple M1 Pro chip (16-inch, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) Space Gray (Renewed)

Review: It works, but play it safe. Do it if you can accept the risk. - I would recommend some general safety on your part before you decide on taking a gamble on buying a renewed item on desertcart. I've done it once before with an iPhone 12 mini a few years ago. Loved that phone. Actually got a pretty decent phone all things considered. My experience was that of impulse. I wanted a MacBook for awhile. Last year I bought a Mac mini, but I was really starting to feel the burn of not having a real beefier computer, so I ended up getting a desktop PC. I like my PC, but it has very specific use cases. I've ran into issues where I'd like to have a laptop, or rather the portable-ness that comes with having a laptop. I was going to go with a Mac Neo or Air. But as a photographer, I really wanted to have something with a bigger screen to really get the most out of my purchase. A new MacBook M5 pro 16 inch is somewhere close to 2500. Which is out of my budget. I stumbled onto this guy and thought it was too good to be true. An M1 Pro, with 16gb for 760. I figured since the iPhone I got was good. This would be good too. And it is. I got this because this specifically had the prime association, so I figured if it didn't work I'd be able to replace it fairly quickly. I ended up ordering this and got it a few hours later which was sweet. The box it came in... what a joke. It was this flimsy cardboard that was barely holding on. The paper was warped and old. The flap it came with was very loosely closed, just moving it slightly felt like the box was going to disintegrate. Thankfully the laptop was protected with a sturdy bubble pillow case. My MacBook is virtually fine. No problems with the keyboard or screen. The back was mostly scratch free outside of the sticker residue on the back corner. But it's small and can be cleaned. It came with what I think is a real MacBook charger, but it's just USB C, not MagSafe. It had no battery life when I got it. I was a little afraid it wouldn't charge. Sure enough it did and soon we were off and running. This is a solid laptop. I've been putting it through the paces and it's been working great. It's got a fantastic screen and has all the extra ports, like HDMI and SD slots. I've taken a look at the battery and it's been showing at around 90 percent. Not too shabby I say. The battery life is crazy. I have a windows 16 inch laptop for work and it's dead within like two or three hours. So far I've been unplugged for a hour on this guy and we're on 98%. I've watched a few videos and written this review in that time. The reality is this laptop is older and in terms of compatibility who knows how many updates it will continue to get. However, I'm not overall too worried as long as it lasts for two or three years just so I can get the most out of it. Once it's gone I'll see about turning this into a linux based laptop and live out life that way to eek as much as I can for this. The screen on the is really incredible and it for sure has some pop to it. The mini LED tech is really so cool to see in action on this. I watched the movie Casino on here and it was impressive seeing the black ratio be pretty good. Not quite OLED, but mark my words. The OLED MacBook Pro is going to be complete overkill. I will say, when this computer finally won't update anymore, I'll definitely end up getting a new one since I'll know for sure I'll my moneys worth out of it.
Review: Super fast Macbook with plenty of ports - I'm not a fan of the price of Macbooks but if you can get past that, this truly is a great laptop. It's very fast and powerful. This is my main work computer, and I run lots of software throughout the day, such as Word and Excel, but also several browser windows with many tabs open, Slack, and Zoom with no problems at all. I also do video editing (Da Vinci Resolve) while everything else is running and still no loading issues. This is my first Mac with an M chip and I was worried I might run into software compatibility issues but I was able to transfer everything from my Intel-based Macbook to this one seamlessly. This has three USB-C ports and each one is capable of charging the computer or connecting to an external monitor, which is great. But this also has a proprietary charging port if you need an extra USB-C port and it has an HDMI port if you want to use that for a monitor. The charging cable also connects magnetically, which is nice because it'll pop right off if you accidentally trip over the wire. There's also an SD port, which is awesome for me since I do a lot of photo and video editing work. It's so much easier to pull the SD card out of my camera and download media to the computer or to another hard drive. I ordered the 16" model after using a 14" model for years and it took me a while to get used to it. This computer is much larger and felt way oversized for several weeks but I eventually got used to it. I still miss my old 14" laptop for portability though because it was smaller and much lighter. I still haven't taken this computer out with me because it's big and I'd rather just leave it at home. But the benefits of a larger screen is a huge plus. On the smaller Mac, I couldn't split screen and work out of two windows. The 16" model makes split screen possible, so I don't always need an external monitor. I'm far more productive with this screen. Another drawback of the size is the large hand rest area. I have to reach much further to reach the keys and my wrists rest on the edge of the laptop, which is a little uncomfortable. I wouldn't say one size is better than the other, just that each one has its benefits. The screen is huge. I have another 15.5" PC laptop and the screen on this Mac feels so much larger, because the bezel on the edges is very thin. Very little space is wasted here. The speakers are great and that's one thing I've always loved about Macbooks over PC laptops (or at least the ones I've owned). I have three other Windows machines and the speakers are terrible and sound tinny. But the audio on this Macbook feels like you're surrounded by the sound and everything sounds crisp and clear. You can hear the bass. The camera is pretty good, and much better than previous models (such as the 2019 model I previously used). It's not amazing and you'lll probably still want to use an external camera for higher quality video calls, but this camera is still surprisingly good. It does a great job of lightening up the scene in dark rooms.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: how much does it weigh?**
A: 4.7 pounds / 2.1 kg

**Q: Is this a 2 in 1 design that can be folded to use it like you would a tablet?**
A: Nope. Its a laptop.

**Q: Does this MacBook have a built in cd drive?**
A: Nope.

**Q: Hi, the battery hours per use is 11 hours or 21 hours? Thanks**
A: It depends on your usage. Just YouTube playback will last you upwards of 20 hours! If you're playing video games, running software codes for work etc, the battery will deplete faster. For my Matlab use it lasts anywhere from 8-12 hours depending on brightness, audio playback etc.

### ⭐ Dirty keyboard should have been cleaned
*by A***R on March 6, 2026*

I ordered this 16 inch MacBook Pro and received it today. However the keyboard has a ton of debris and crumbs under it to the point where typing actually feels crunchy. I normally don’t leave reviews but It should have been cleaned this is unacceptable. Everything else seems to be working but a refurbished premium product should not have this issue. I attached a photo where you can see the issue somewhat. The battery health is at 84% which is fine. However i am extremely unhappy with the state of the keyboard. There is some slight wear and tear otherwise which is normal for a refurbished product. Screen seems to be in perfect condition. But overall the state of the keyboard has left me unhappy I have no idea how long this keyboard will last I may ask for an exchange
