Review: Catching bass with Berkley Gilly Bait - Great bait just tears easily. Lifelike in appearance, great movement in the water, catches bass, perfect size
Review: The real deal - I fished this weightless with a 3/0 twist lock Owner hook. Action is erratic when jerked and when swum towards you it looks very realistic. Stop and go retrieve really gets the tail going and an unpredictable fall. Does not sink very fast so would consider maybe a Carolina rig for deeper water, but fishing this on pads and in weeds it hammered them today. Negatives would have to be durability. It’s great when inhaled, but the tail is very prone to ripping off if it’s short struck. Also wish it were a littttttle less buoyant, I don’t want to add a weight but it sinks SO slow. Overall a really good bait. Durability, therefore price is the biggest issue, since I can’t just buy 100 like with trick worms or whatever.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great action and colors. Not durable.
*by J***Y on June 5, 2025*

Agree with most other reviews. This bait is super realistic, the supple body moves like the real thing. I’ve watched countless videos on rigging this bait and still had to play with hook angle and retrieve speed in order to get it to swim straight. It can easily mimic an injured bluegill, but trying to fire up a fry guarder as a healthy bed raider takes careful rigging. Owner screw locks work well but use superglue. I just ordered the 110’s and I’m going to try those on a drop shot. These get torn up by the short strikes common with spawning fish moving invaders off their beds. If it’s your first time rigging these I would get it as perfect as possible on the first one, patch it with glue if necessary, and try to replicate the most effective hook position and and depth on the rest. Bottom line is these are great baits but unless they improve the durability (maybe license Elaztec from Z-man like Strike King does?), they’ll be a bed fishing specialty lure that I probably won’t throw too often the rest of the season.
