What is it?** A: these are NOT the pro version; those are not sold on Amazon for obvious reasons by the manufacturer these sponge filters would be the equivalent of the blue or white sponge mat filters used for canisters but e bit finer pores. **Q: will the top lift tube fit an Aqua Clear 20 or 40 Powerhead intake?** A: The Hydro Sponge uses a standard 1" lift tube for all size sponges, exactly the same size used on most under gravel filters. I checked reviews on Amazon for the Aqua Clear 20, and many users report using the Aqua Clear to power their under gravel filter, so I believe the Aqua Clear powerhead would also fit on a Hydro Sponge. I use the Hydro Sponge V "Pro", which uses a special reticulated sponge which resists clogging. The standard filters (non-Pro) have a finer pore structure, so need to be cleaned more often (how often depends on how dirty your fish are, but monthly would be a good place to start). The same company also makes "Filter Max" filters which use the same sponges, but have plastic elbows and several adapters to fit a wider range of powerheads and other water pumps.
