It simply rests up on top of the main grate, and is around 18" or so (it might not fit the smaller 18" Kettle with the lid closed). Even with the 22" Kettle it fits fine even with some corn on the cob wrapped in foil. If you shove it all the way in the back, and try to put the top on the 22" Kettle, the warming rack will slide forward just a hair, but still manageable and functional. It's okay.... believe me.... food won't touch/cannot touch the underside of the inside lid of a Kettle. Never had a problem at all with it.
