## Description

desertcart.com: American Weigh Scales Blade Series Digital Precision Pocket Weight Scale, Gray, 650 X 0.1G (BL-650-GRY) : Home & Kitchen

Review: The Blade is one of the best scales at desertcart - First, let me preface this with two things: -#1: if you're in a hurry, if you like the way this scale looks and operates, go ahead and buy it with confidence in its accuracy, too. it's one of the best. -#2: I came to this scale because I needed certain features, and the reviews on most of the scales at desertcart leave me with contradictory quotes and no way to tell which one is the best. So, I bought the 7 scales that looked best to me, and I've used them all. This has given me some perspective on what is good or not good in these small form-factor scales. I'm reviewing those that I kept. So, on with the review... The Blade is so named because of the little section of the body which swings out to reveal the display and the operational buttons. It is held shut by a mechanism that locks or releases when you press it in, so shutting and opening "the Blade" involve the same motion: pushing in on the top of the swing-out "blade" section until you hear the "click-click" of its release or lock. When it swings out, it reveals the lighted display, the on/off button, the Tare button (for zeroing the display when you set an empty tray on the scale to hold more items), and the Mode button, which determines the units of measurement you prefer. Those units of measurement are shown below, along with their maximum reading on this scale: Gram: to a maximum of 100.00 g. Ounce: to a maximum of 3.527 oz. Grain: to a maximum of 1543.1 gn. Carat: to a maximum of 500.00 ct. Note that these are small weights, and while the scale is accurate to a hundredth of a gram, its small capacity makes it unsuitable for a general household scale. What weighs 100 grams or less? Three silver dollars, but not four. Three AA batteries, but not four. 52 Pepsid antacid tablets, but not 53. A small, glass (59 ml) Tabasco Sauce bottle -- empty, but not filled. About ⅞ stick of butter, but not the whole stick. A leather glove, but not a pair. 40 shiny pennies, but not 41. The scale is 3.75" square by .830" (13/16") tall. Metric dimensions: 95.2 mm square x 21.73 mm tall. With its lid on, it fits comfortably in your pocket. There is a 2nd tray/cover which will make it slightly larger, but I find it hard to get the scale out of that form-fitting square plastic cover, as there are no grooves or handles to grab it with. I'm fine without the big cover, but it's nice to have it as a tray for measuring larger numbers of pieces. Note: if you get the scale or its lid stuck in the larger cover, use a suction cup to pull it out. Don't bang it on the cabinet, for heaven's sake! For calibration, you will need a 100 gram scale calibration weight. Be sure to get it when you buy the scale, as it should be calibrated first thing. In tests with a half dozen different weights, after calibration the Blade nailed every one of them to the hundredth of a gram. (.00 in the case of these weights) That's very reassuring. It's the only scale I have that hit all the weights exactly on the mark, every time. The desirable features of this scale are its multiple units, it's small form factor, and its accuracy to 100th of a gram. If you want a scale to measure packages for figuring postage, this isn't going to help you much. But if you want to weigh small things like coins, beads, small pieces, spices in a recipe, sugar in a strict diet, or whatever you may have in mind that needs high accuracy and low capacity, then this is really a nice scale; one of the best. The marketing company which sells this Chinese device in America is AMS: American Weigh Scales, Inc., which is the company that sells most of the small scales that I actually like. The Blade is a very nice scale with no real downgradable issues, so I give it 5 stars out of 5. Treat it with care as you would any precision instrument, and it should last a long time.
Review: I use as herb/spice scale; I RECOMMEND! Was only off .02 w/out Calibration. I calibrated it now & it's SO ACCURATE (near 100%)!! - DATE: 8/5/2017 | UPDATE 1: So far, so good. I bought this for weighing cut up small herbs/spices in my kitchen. :-) Just came today in mail (8/5/2017)!!! Will update in the coming weeks/months/years. The most my "AWS Blade-100 Digital Scale - 100g x 0.01g" is off is when I weighed the brand-new 5g, 10g, 20g & 50g Calibration Weights. These Calibration Weights were only off like .02-.05g (and .04-.05g is rare since I've used the scale a bit more). A quick press of OFF and then ON again usually corrects it 100% to the correct weight or much closer (IE: .01-.03, at most). Buying this and a 100g and smaller Calibration Weights is a must if you wanna be totally accurate, although mine was only off .02-.03 after 5-6 tries with a 50g Calibration weight right out the box without even pressing the "TARE" button (calibrating it) and just pressing on and going form there on the scale without the tray. The tray works fine with it too! I recommend using the bigger tray every time (I get better results). I have heard this scale and any others like it suck down batteries (AAA) like CRAZY! Make sure to buy good, recommenced batteries (or just some really nicer than usual ones). My buddy does that with a different but similar AWS scale and his battery life lasts like, seriously, 6 months or so more than my identical AWS scale!! ;-) The battery life situation and not having a USB charger along with AC adapter for wall charging is the reason I ALMOST gave this a 4-Star Review. But, it is so almost 100% accurate with the tray, without it, with herbs/spices, calibration weights, etc. that it's perfect (almost)... and, for now. I WILL UPDATE THIS "REVIEW" DOWN BELOW IN A FEW DAYS/WEEK AT MOST! But, back to what I was getting at, they should at least have the "battery-less model" as an option, even if manufacturing it costs much more, I would've paid the extra difference in price even if it were $15 more... and, JUST for those two options on this exact scale! I attached some "unboxing" pics and some pics of me weighing Calibration Weights, etc! I highly recommend THIS scale to ALL!!! "Grade Score:" A. Seriously guys/gals, a GREAT little scale! | (I WILL update below in the future)..... - J.A. ________________________________ [I will update here...]

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I use it for weighing yarn & beads
*by T***A on October 29, 2018*

Nice, lightweight, compact scale. Has 2 covers, one which fits over the pressure plate and a second which fits over the back of the unit with the first cover on, which protects against accidentally popping out the display/button arm. You can use both covers interchangeably as containers to weigh smaller items. Has a weight "limit" of 100g although it can be partially circumvented by using the tare function on a lighter item first (to begin with a negative weight), then weighing the heavier item. I imagine the accuracy decreases this way but it worked in my case as an adequate approximation (I was attempting to weigh something in the neighborhood of 150g). Due to its lack of heft, I would be concerned if you are the butter-fingered type, as I believe a good fall would likely cause irreparable damage. I keep mine in a desk drawer and strictly use it at my desk, so hasn't been an issue (yet. knock on wood.) For a scale that weighs in increments of 0.01g, this is wonderfully affordable and much more accurate than the scale I initially purchased a few years ago from a yarn retailer. I've used the covers as containers to weigh beads, small leftover balls of yarn, needles, etc. I have also weighed a large cone of yarn that set off the weight limit of the scale (see above). Weight displayed can be a little "bouncy" while an item is on the scale but this is typically within a few hundredths of a gram. I am mainly concerned with measuring the nearest tenths, so it has not been a concern. Plus removing and re-weighing items is always consistent, even a few days later, so I consider this scale quite reliable.
