It was a fungus, the name of which escapes me. It happened because I didn't mulch my tomatoes early enough, and when watered, or it was raining, the ground based fungus would splash up and get on the lower leaves, then spread throughout the plant. I pulled off all of the yellow leaves, then I applied the Bonide, drenching the whole plant. The yellowing slowed considerably, then 10 days later as per instructions, I reapplied, drenching the plants again. I also put down mulch about a week after the 2nd application. The Bonide got rid of the fungus and the mulch kept it away for 2 months or so, then it came back. It was near the end of the season, and I had already been stripping away leaves to allow more sunlight through the plant, so I just kept up after the yellow leaves and didn't bother to reapply the Bonide. Now, we had nearly a record number of rainy days, so I think that had something to do with it. This product does leave a white residue on the plant including the tomatoes. It sticks on through a lot a rain. When I harvested, I just washed the tomatoes well and let them dry. If there was any residue left I'd wash them again until it was gone. It didn't affect the flavor whatsoever. By eliminating the fungus when I did, I was able to get a larger harvest as I didn't lose any blossoms after I applied the Bonide. Before that, the blossoms were dying along with the leaves and branches. It seems to help after a couple treatments but I also pruned out the dead branches and shook out all the dead leaves which were building up in the plant and growing some kind of mold. The combination seems to be working. The product looks like white latex paint out of the bottle so I had worries about staining and spots.
