The media works well inside a fine mesh bag, well rinsed, anywhere there is decent water flow (like where you would place a carbon bag). This media can be mixed with the activated carbon in the same bag however, the GFO stays active longer than the carbon so that would be the only drawback. Use an 1/8 to 1/4 cup for 30-40 gals. Rinse it and place the bag pretty much anywhere in your sump's flow/return. It works wonders with phosphates! Replace it every 4 to 6 weeks.
