Plus, the blades are SHARP, and strong. By the way, there is a little plastic piece at the bottom of the handle that locks the two-piece handle together so that the blades stay together when stored. (I can see where that lock could easily become undone, however, but so far, that hasn't happened to me.) This is really a phenomenal product, and I can not only cut through thick cardboard boxes with it (I much prefer using this to a box cutter), I can also cut through double-thickness of those boxes when necessary; though there is a bit more difficulty then. I highly recommend this product for its intended uses. And don't let the unusual look of the handle scare you away-- it's actually one of the great features on this set of shears. Is there more than just plastic beneath your fingers?** A: That is not true, the tangs penetrate the handle by well over two inches ! **Q: I broke a pair of regular household scissors cutting through cotton balls, harder than you’d think. Would the 8” scissors be able to do this task?** A: After seeing your question I got a cotton ball and cut right though it. So these scissors will do the job!! **Q: Could these cut a rug?** A: I know that they will cut carpet that was put in a boat.
