Review: Sweet! - Waited a while before writing a review. Legitimately a very nice guitar. I have seen a lot of reviews saying the amp isn’t great, or it’s a gimmick etc. when this guitar was on the way, I was looking at used box amps like a squire for example. the old school early aughts “starter” amp with overdrive that plugs into the wall. Well, incredulously, this little 5 watt battery powered amp is just as loud, just as clean, just as mean as any of those all in one box amps I had as a kid. It will get LOUD! And legitimately sounds good, and you can charge it with a type C and play it for a couple hours.. plus it weighs nothing. It has overdrive. Very cool! Gig bag is good and suitable for carting it around. The accessories are a solid 9/10 all around. The tuner is a little spotty, but so are all clip on tuners under $40. It appears to be a 1:1 copy of the fender clip on tuner, and it works the exact same. Onto the guitar itself: A really sweet super Strat with a HUMBUCKER! Man is it awesome. No sharp frets, no fret buzz, no warped neck. Nothing. Just a great playing and great sounding guitar that was set up with a nice low action right from the factory. I had planned on changing the tuners, as the reviews made them sound pretty abysmal, but they are more than fine. If you ever owned an early 2000’s squire, or basically any beginner guitars (sub $500) this will impress you. Made in China no longer feels like a sin. My buddy has one of the $300~ squires, and it is undoubtedly an inferior guitar. I ordered the black with a maple fretboard (DST-152B) which is very nice. Smooth and looks and feels excellent. I tried to critique this guitar, because I wanted to tear it down (somewhat) and overtime build it into a parts caster. It has impressed me so much, that out of respect I am going to keep it as is with the donner neck and all. The strings that come on it are basically junk, but they work fine and sound good until you (or your child) wants to change them. I slapped on some Ernie ball super slinkies and it plays wonderfully. Not too heavy, not too light. The cavity is finished and looks good, electronics look good. All knobs work as they should, the selector switch has a nice click and doesn’t wiggle. The split coil pull out knob works as you would expect. The tuners do not slip and the guitar does not go out of tune even when using the whammy bar (which surprised me). The last guitar I had bought was a MiM Strat and that was back in 2012. Shockingly and sadly, there isn’t a gulf of difference between these two instruments. The overseas factories have finally caught up and now you are relegated to just paying more for the brand on the headstock. This would be a wonderful guitar for a beginner, or an extra beater for a professional musician. The only QC issue I have with mine, is the bridge and the pick guard do not fit as well as they probably should, which is pictured. Does it really matter for a $180 full kit? No. Buy one and do a general once over, make sure the pickups are at the correct height, make sure the neck isn’t warped, and make sure the nut is set up correctly, and you have a guitar that will last years. I give it a solid 9.5/10. You just cannot beat the quality, feeling and sound for the price point. If anything randomly goes wrong on this, I will come back and update my review. If you don’t see an update, it’s still just as sweet as the day I got it. Hope this helps somebody!
