So, I tried the expensive lithium AA batts and works like new. Now I have a great hand held VHF in my ditch bag again! Review: Works as advertised - I purchased this so I would have an alternate power source for my marine handheld. I was a bit surprised that it uses AAA batteries but after reviewing the ad I realized that I missed that.
