I just pinch a strand, yank up hard to make a ton of room for lateral movement, and then carefully work the plant bits through before gently releasing the pulled strand back into place. I used the inside corners of the net to get it extra tight and it turned out perfect. The squares were broad and open, and branches are easily trained through and around them with very little stress.
