To figure out their actual internal capacity you have to multiple the interior HxWxD in inches then divide by 1728 to get the cubic feet. The top compartment does not lock but I don't need it too. Its perfect for holding multiple small loose items . Some people have complained that the fingerprint reader is finicky but that's probably because they did not read the manual closely. When registering a print the sensor scans your finger three times. If you only do it once it will not always work. Fortunately you can register the same finger multiple times (up to 30).
