They do seal each compartment well and keep liquid from spilling into another compartment. The utensils are pretty small and fine for my kids to use, but I prefer a regular size spoon or fork. Not really an issue since keep a set at work. My only complaint about these is that they are just a little too large for a regular-sized kids lunch box. You have to squish them into the lunch box and then there's no room for a drink container.
