Not even static. I also plugged a portable Am-Fm radio into scanner port; still no sound. I have a headset pair that I use; but I needed an additional headset. **Q: What cable to i need to use the ptt? do i need to run a cable from the 5 pin? a 3.5m to my radio does not work with ptt.** A: The 3.5mm port is simply for listening to music or audio through an external source such as a cell phone or tablet. You won't be able to transmit your voice through the microphone using the 3.5mm jack. You would need a 5-pin cable that connects to your radio to transmit. Reply with the model of your radio and I should be able to help you find the proper cable for use. **Q: will these work with Midland radios?** A: You have to have the correct connection cable for your radio. I have Motorola and Midland radios with the proper cables for both and the headset did not work with either radio. I returned this headset and continued to use my prior headset which works for both radios.
