Twining is one of the earliest methods of basket making. It involves twisting one material over another. Twining styles, materials and decorative motifs vary by region. The open-twined gathering basket was used for gathering small plant materials and is common in many cultures. The kit comes packed in a plastic bag that can be used to store materials while you make your basket. Baskets are woven containers. They are extremely important to human existence because they allow for the storage of food and carrying of resources. Humans worldwide have used native materials to craft baskets to aid in daily tasks and requirements. In addition to utilitarian basketry, decorative basketry is also important for artistic expressions of individuality, spirituality, and tribalism. Archaeologists and historians have learned much about ancient cultures from basketry fragments which have been found across the globe. The oldest basketry fragments were found in Egypt and date back about 12,000 years. In North America, native cultures are well known for fine basketry. Immigrants brought with them other methods and materials. As cultures and materials came in contact with each other various styles and adaptations emerged. Basketry continues as an important human activity. Open twining, as taught in this kit, is common among many cultures worldwide and in North America. - Our kit includes fiber rush, hemp twine and color photo instructions - You will need: scissors, ruler, fork - Kit makes one 5 to 7" basket - Ages 12 and up, adult participation necessary for younger ages - Made in USA. Review: Started a new hobby! - I really enjoyed this kit! The materials were easy to work and it was a great first time basket. My only criticism is that the instructions doesn't go over technique, just the steps that weren't always the best detailed. The additional videos also lacked instruction on two aspects I wasn't sure of (how to correctly force the shape of the basket at the start of bringing the walls up and finishing off the top of the basket when the rim has finished, I made due and figured it out) but overall still super worth it! I am a naturally crafty person so take that into account Review: A Good Relearning Tool - I've learned to weave over 15 years ago. So rusty, but a great paper product to relearn. Don't use near water. ## Features - Learn to make baskets: Create your own gallery of traditional arts & crafts! Learn plain twining. Promotes mindfulness! So rusty, but a great paper product to relearn. Don't use near water. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Easy enough for a first-timer! *by E***A on 5 November 2024* I've been watching Naked and Afraid (lol) and a lot of the participants had basic basket weaving knowledge which made me want to give it a try. This product has easy to comprehend instructions and when I had questions, I referred to the sellers YouTube page (@ found on instruction pamphlet) where they walk you through the steps! My kit came with more than enough materials for the project as well. My basket is a bit uneven (I messed up some of the weaving) but still super stable regardless! Awesome kit and inspired to keep practicing ## Frequently Bought Together - Traditional Craft Kits Twined Basket Weaving Kit (Gathering Style) - Weave Kit for Kids and Adults Complete with Basket Weaving Supplies and Instructional Booklets - Traditional Craft Kits Coiled Basket Weaving Kit (Pine Needle) - Weave Kit for Kids and Adults Complete with Basket Weaving Supplies and Instructional Booklets - Traditional Craft Kits Wicker Basket Weaving Kit for Beginners - Weave Kit for Kids and Adults Complete with Basket Weaving Supplies and Instructional Booklets --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - πŸ›’ **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** β€” Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** β€” Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - πŸ’° **No Hidden Fees** β€” All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - πŸ”„ **15-Day Free Returns** β€” Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - πŸ”’ **Secure Payments** β€” Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** β€” Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.gr/products/386895804-twined-basket-kit-gathering-style-basket-weaving-kit-set-basket](https://www.desertcart.gr/products/386895804-twined-basket-kit-gathering-style-basket-weaving-kit-set-basket) --- *Product available on Desertcart Greece* *Store origin: GR* *Last updated: 2026-11-01*
