Kind of like plugging a toaster onto your battery. It will draw a lot of juice off the battery in just one test with smaller batteries so if they are weak you will know it fast and they will likely need a recharge afterward. I use it for 4 and 8 D size batteries for starting large diesel engines. I would suggest a lighter amp load tester for what you are doing. The battery has to be charged though, you cannot check a dead battery , so unless you have access to a battery charger this won't help you. **Q: will this work on 8 volt golf cart batteries?** A: Hi Cabo, It might as it has scales for 6 or 12 volt. It would read a little high on the 6 volt scale when checking 8 volt.
