## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will this 2 zone panel work with a variable speed compressor (American Standard Platinum 20)?**
A: If your hvac system uses 24VAC controls our SmartZone controllers will be compatible up to 2 speeds. If your hvac system uses "communicating" controls (and variable speed compressors typically are communicating) SmartZone or any other 24VAC third party zone control products will not be compatible.

**Q: Can a carrier/bryant dampact90deg-b damper actuator be used? Does smartzone constantly energize the signal wire or only for certain amount of time?**
A: UPDATE FROM SELLER:  Many Carrier actuator ARE compatible with SmartZone (even though some are not).  If you can find the model number - some ARE COMPATIBLE: HF21KJ008 & HF21KJ005 and others are too.  In the data sheet for your actuator it should indicate that it is 24VAC and that it can "STALL" without damaging the motor.  SEE OTHER ANSWER FROM SELLER, it still applies to some models of actuators.  Contact us directly with model number to verify.

A: Smartzone 2X and 4X support 2 cooling and 3 heating stages.

**Q: Will this replace z tech zc2s (001-00240) two zone control unit with outside air "smartvent" ?**
A: Ecojay's SmartZone ZS2X zone controller is compatible with all 24VAC thermostats, 24VAC 2 wire (spring return) and 3 wire (power open/close) dampers, and is configurable for conventional heat/cool, heat pump and heat pump with fossil fuel hvac equipment up to 2 stages of cool and 3 stages of heat. The ZC2S control is compatible only with conventional heat/cool single stage hvac equipment and is not compatible with 3 wire power open/close dampers. With regard to your "Smartvent" system, SmartZone can turn on/off any 24VAC hvac accessory with a 24VAC input circuit including humidifiers, UV light supply air sterilizers, ventilation controls and other devices. SmartZone allows independent control of the hvac equipment from each zone thermostat and is capable of handling heat and cool operations including concurrent opposing heat and cool calls from different zones.  All SmartZone products carry a 5 year replacement warranty.

I discovered the SmartZone 3.0 while researching a replacement for my old Honeywell MiniZone system. I had never heard of Ecojay before, so I checked online reviews and noticed that users seemed very satisfied. I decided to give it a try and installed the board myself. Even though I’m not an HVAC expert and this was my first time installing a zoning board, the setup went smoothly. Many of the issues I ran into turned out to be furnace-related, which I later resolved. During the installation, I emailed the seller multiple times with basic questions, and they responded quickly—often the same day. The SmartZone 3.0 is well-designed, intuitive, and in my opinion one of the best zoning boards available. It is well priced and really easy to install. It clearly shows what your furnace and dampers are doing in real time, which makes troubleshooting much easier. Excellent product and outstanding support. Highly recommend.
