Not like space blanket which tears easily. I have used it with my conventional bag as an outside cover and it works very well. **Q: is this bag meant for repeated use? could it be trusted in place of a down bag on backpacking trips?** A: Yes, you could use it multiple times. It rolls up to about a 6 inch x 3 inch roll roughly, so it's compact and light weight. The material is nice and very thin, it gets the job done, keeping you protected and warm. I don't think it was intended to replace your primary bedding. It wouldn't be as comfortable as a down bag. **Q: How do you get into this bag? Is it only open on the one end? Is there a side opening with velcro to close? A draw string at opening?** A: David, the bags are sealed on all but the top side. You pull it out of the storage bag, shake it out to expand, and then slide in from the top. **Q: Could this be used as part of an emergency car kit for the winter in the midwest?** A: Live in Upstate NY,Have one in my car for that. I have used other mylars in cold conditions & they work ok.
