I called the manufacturer and got someone who was incredibly helpful. She said it was obviously flawed, apologized several times, and offered to send a replacement. I said I wasn't willing to chance another one so the price was refunded immediately. She also said not to return the faulty one since it probably couldn't be repaired. It's not a bad looking lamp. However, the lamp is very flimsy and does not stand straight when screwed in. It was a major pain setting it up and it took a long time to screw in. The pole comes in about 8 sections with the power cord already threaded through it. Just screw the sections together. They seem sturdy enough but as usual with cheap crap, one of the threaded sections was buggered up and it cross-threaded a little at first. Had to exert a little force to get it screwed together which is ok because I don't ever plan on unscrewing it again. The shade is cheap plastic but it's not really obvious to the eye. Overall, it's worth the 20 bucks I paid for it.
