The unique process allows the cartridge to effectively reduce sediment while providing a high flow rate. The cartridge lasts up to six months before replacement.The cartridge is manufactured by 3M Purification Inc. (3MPITM), formerly CUNO Incorporated. I have been using this brand of filter for years and they work very well and hold up great. The design allows particles to be trapped while still allowing good water flow through them. I changed over from the 25 micron to this 5 micron to get better filtration. It states the water flow is the same, 20 gpm. Once I replace my old 25 micron filter, I'll see if the flow rate remains the same or not with the micron filtration difference. It will be an interesting comparison and I'll see if I can update this review after a few months of use.
