I mashed them as well as I could but many small ones remained. Nevertheless the waffles were perfect! I've made them since, once with the help of my granddaughter, and they are still perfect. I do think it is important to follow the directions of the manufacturer of your waffle-iron maker to prevent overcooking.12-23-17 Additional comments: The mix is forgiving of small errors in the quantity of ingredients. A little too much of this or too little of that, and the waffles still turn out well.
