These thermometers are great for everything - cooking, baking, water temperature, testing chicken at multiple spots, melting chocolate, water for yeast.....The temperature resets quickly, it's accurate, easy to use, and idiot-proof.(And once we even had to use it to check a child's temperature when our "real" thermometer died.) ### ⭐ NOT WATERPROOF, NOT RELIABLE *by J***L on Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2018* These units are cheaply made and ARE NOT WATERPROOF.I used this thermometer for years and loved it. One thermometer would last years and reliably.They obviously have a new manufacturer or have started using cheaper parts. They crap the bed within a few uses.Totally dissatisfied. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ slow, survived my dishwasher, but not a fall *by A***D on Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2016* Depending on the temperature difference of the food item, it may take 10s for the reading to stabilize.To measure the temperature, all of the ~1cm tip must be inserted into the food item. Otherwise, it underestimates the temperature of hot food. This can be problematic for thin items like shrimp.I washed it in the top rack of a dishwasher, and the unit fully survived. After the wash, it turned on, and measured the temperature of my tap water in hottest position as 131F, which seems correct, and agrees with my other food thermometer.Every other thermometer I tried, even some that claim to be dishwasher safe, didn't survive a wash. Either they would not turn on, or become inaccurate.It did, however, stop working when it fell from the top of my oven (around 1 meter high).
