I notified desertcart that I was returning the bulb for replacement. On January 7th, I went to pack up the bulb for return to desertcart, and noticed a small spot of green at the top of the bulb. I decided to wait a bit to see if the bulb was dead. On January 15th, there is a leaf that is about 5 or 6 inches tall growing out of the bulb. So, I cancelled the desertcart return. Apparently, it can take over a month for the bulb to show signs of life, and I just didn't wait long. enough for this one.l I've grown amaryllis flowers in the past, but never had to wait over a month for the bulb to show life. I returned it immediately. **Q: I live in ohio. Will the cold freezing temp affect the bulb while in transit if purchased now?** A: I sent this plant to my mom and dad (both 90 yrs. old) to arrive for Christmas. They're in Raleigh, NC for the winter. I receive an update on the bulb (often) when we talk on the phone (We're in Maine.) They followed the instructions to plant the bulb right upon receiving. The bulb was of substantial size...to the point they wondered if the pot and soil was sufficient for the size of the bulb...but clearance around the bulb matched that of the instructions. The plant is now (1/17/16) about 14" tall and is in bud...there will be several blooms to come. Nice that it has a shorter stalk...mine (vintage ones) at home are 30" tall and require support. These blooms are typically very large, and even the shorter ones sometimes require support of the stem. As far as transport...the bulb and planting material arrives dry. -Think it should be fine as long as not left in truck or warehouse for a hard freeze...I'd make sure to meet the delivery person so that the bulb isn't left at the door in a blizzard. (I once had cakes arrive that I didn't find till spring! LOL!) The quality of the bulb I sent my folks was "top shelf", and it's a bright spot in their winter to water and watch the speedy results! Best! Teresa Craig **Q: My bulb came with everything except directions. How do I plant it?** A: Soak the soil disk in 1 cup of water. Let it sit fir about 15 minutes. Put half the hydrated soil in the pot provided. Put the amaryllis bulb on top of the soil. Put the remainder of the soil around the sides of the bulb. Leave about 1/4 of the bulb above the soil. Place in low sunlight until growth appears then put in a sunny area. Rotate so the stem stays straight. Water lightly just to keep moist.
