The material is very thick, like that of the best OLD military surplus stuff from WWII. It appears to be stitched together very well. There was only three pieces of thread left dangling at the end of the stitches and they melted not burned when singed off. I purchased for my Boreal 21 and it fits very well, I don't think it would have any problem holding the 24". The saw pouch is roomy enough; I would venture to say; that you could actually haul two of the Boreal saws in the scabbard. The opening for an axe does go all the way through or under the pouch you see on the front. The pouch wasn't deep enough for my smaller folding hand saw but is large enough to hold other necessary gear. I placed a yardstick inside the main sleeve and it measured 24.25 inches from bottom to top. Plus the top flap has six inches of overlap. My 21" Boreal is down inside the main sleeve by a few inches. Your 24" Boreal might protrude out a little but will be covered easily by the top flap. **Q: Will this work for a double bit camp axe?** A: Probably. I've a cold steel trail boss and a fisker's pickaroon in mine the flap is too short though. Another tool can also go in the open slot, so it can carry three tools. Like a swen folding saw or silky saw pocket folder, a zombat comes with it's own sheath. Good stitching could be a little bit longer over all. Carrying it across back, I'd put some kydex on tools it can cut and poke you walking or running. This and a wood carrier help going to the pay wood pile or woods. If the double bit axe handle is longer than 3', it might be clumsy and may need to try the open slot, the handle with go through this sheath and hang to carry one tool. Big axe it'll carry one, small tools can fit 3-4 (there's a pocket with button as well for like chainsaw tools kit). **Q: What is the weight of the canvas used? 9 0z? 12 oz? Is it waxed or waterproofed?** A: I have no idea, but it has layers with the pockets created. To where, if anything fails, it will likely be the stitching years from now befor the canvas. Also, never descend the well on another man’s rope…. It’s feels like it’s made from the same type of material as the brown duck carhart bibs and jackets and that stuff is tough. I was on the fence between this one and another that was much more expensive and a friend has this one. Usually you get what you pay for but in this case I really feel like this one will last much longer. It feels a little heavier but the trade off is I need it to go through briars, bob wire fences and so on so a few more ounces is worth it for the durability. The only thing in my opinion that should be improved is the” spare blade holder” the blade has room to move around a lot more than I would like. If it has too much play it could eventually saw into the sheath. My opinion is they made it so you could put much wider blades in but for the boreal 21” it’s way wider than I would like. The top folds over nicely to cover the head of your hatchet or smaller axe which is nice but you still need something to cover the blade to protect you when it’s slung over your shoulder if your axe is sharp as it should be. This is no issue for me my axe has a small leather sheath that covers the blade. It feels great on your shoulder which is the way I carry it but also you have the option to take off the strap and connect it to you pack. The extra pocket for a knife is a good option but I always carry my knife on my belt so I use it for my axe sharpening tools in case I need to strop or I chip my blade in the field. I did notice a few places where the stitching was loose but a quick touch with a bic lighter solved it nicely. I don’t think it will cause any issues but I am using it a lot so if anything changes I will update. In case anyone is interested in waterproofing I used a block of bees wax. Rub it on an area then use a hairdryer to turn to a liquid then it soaks in. Then move to another spot till you have the whole thing done. It changes the color just a little but I think it looks better. When I used it in the rain I could see the water beading up and rolling off. This may be overkill for some but I use it in the rain a lot and am a firm believer in take care of your tools and they will take care of you. Hope this helps someone on the fence about this item.
